Conferment of Degrees and Other Awards Academic Year 2016-2017 Important Information for Students intending to Graduate in 2017 Sheelagh Wallace Director of Administration & Campus Registrar Heriot-Watt University Dubai Campus ELIGIBILITY TO GRADUATE July 2017 - Honours Degree Students (4th year in Academic Year 16/17) Postgraduate Diploma Students All other students who have a decision to graduate by 2nd June. November 2017 - All other final year students CHECK FOR ELIGIBILITY TO GRADUATE IN JULY 2017 Students can apply to graduate before they receive their final results. However in order to graduate in person you must receive a decision to graduate at the Spring Examination Board. This will be clearly stated on your Assessment Results Letter and also through online results. Results will be published by 9th June If you have not received an appropriate decision, you will not be permitted to graduate. CHECK FOR ELIGIBILITY TO GRADUATE IN NOVEMBER 2017 You must receive a decision to graduate at the Spring or Autumn Examination Board. This will be clearly stated on your Assessment Results Letter and also through online results. Results will be published by 20th October. If you have not received an appropriate decision, you will not be permitted to graduate. Possible Reasons why you are not eligible…… You have not obtained sufficient credits to enable you to receive an award. Undergraduate Degree Programme Ordinary Degree – 360 credits Honours Degree – 480 credits Postgraduate Degree Programme PG Diploma – 120 credits Masters Degree – 180 credits You must complete further study and/or examinations in the following Academic Year to become eligible. Possible Reasons why you are not eligible…… You have received a decision to proceed to the next stage of your programme, for example: - Proceed to Year 4 or Proceed to Masters Dissertation You must complete a ‘Transfer Form’, if you are intending to graduate with an Ordinary Degree or PG Diploma to ensure that your marks/grades are presented to the appropriate Examination Board Transfer Form Complete form now and hand to AAO staff – authorisation will be done automatically or Complete full form and submit to DSSC by 25th April 2017 Possible Reasons why you are not eligible…… You have an outstanding debt to the University You must visit the Finance Office to clear this debt. Deadline Dates for clearing any outstanding debt: July 2017 (Dubai): November 2017 (Dubai): 19th May 2017 6th October 2017 (TBC) Possible Reasons why you are not eligible for Graduation SUMMARY - Did not receive a decision to graduate by 2nd June Did not obtain sufficient credits Received a ‘progressing’ decision, not a graduating decision Have outstanding debts PROCESS TO BE CARRIED OUT (JULY) Graduating in person or in absentia for students eligible for July 2017 Ceremony. - - Completed online application form and fee payment must be submitted (and payment cleared) by no later than 26th May. No forms will be processed after 26th, if payment has not been received by UK Campus, by deadline date. If you decide to graduate in absentia, you can collect your certificate from 6th August 2017. Degree Certificate will be dated 5th July PROCESS TO BE CARRIED OUT (NOVEMBER) Graduating in person or in absentia for students eligible for November 2017 Ceremony. - - Completed online application form and fee payment must be submitted (and payment cleared) by no later than 13th October. No forms will be processed after 13th, if payment has not been received by UK Campus, by deadline date. If you decide to graduate in absentia, you can collect your certificate approximately 6 weeks after the Ceremony. PROCESS TO BE CARRIED OUT July Graduation Fee and Associated Costs In Person: Dubai Graduation Fee - AED 300 Dubai Guest Ticket – AED 300 (max 5) In Absentia: Dubai Graduation Fee - AED 205 GRADUATION DAY Procedures On the Day - Registration Collection of Gown and Hood Photographs (optional) Conferment of Degrees and other awards Buffet Lunch / Buffet Dinner Must arrive at the stipulated timings as latecomers will not be permitted to enter the ballroom Guests must only attend if they have a ticket – no additional tickets will be available at the venue Must sit in allocated seat Read and comply with all rules very carefully to ensure all graduates and visitors have a great experience! GRADUATION DAY http://www.hw.ac.uk/students/studies/graduation.htm ACADEMIC QUALIFICATION ATTESTATION Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) can certify all academic awards issued by Heriot-Watt University Dubai Campus. Graduated students will be able to receive an academic qualification that is legally recognised by the Government of Dubai. These qualifications will be recognised in the Emirate by all public and private entities. Only students who have graduated or students who have received a decision to graduate and have no outstanding debts may apply for KHDA attestation. Students must apply in writing to the Dubai Student Service Centre using the appropriate form and submitting payment. KHDA will attest HWU certificates, transcripts and certifications THANK YOU!
