Excellence in motion Bringing out the best Al-Hijrah’s Pupil Post Volume 1, Issue 2 Khadijas (RA) little helpers Last week the Year 5 girls planned their very own mini business! Why? Due to the topic, `Heroes of Islam`. Each class was allocated a specific hero/heroine to study. GY5`s Heroine was Khadija (RA), a wealthy business woman. Khadija (RA) was the first believer of Islam and the first, most beloved wife of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW). She devoted her life’s work to Islam, caring for the poor and needy and always ready to offer a few reassuring words of comfort to those upset or distressed. Khadija (RA) was very successful and experienced in her trades, selling tempting items made for use around the house, cleverly luring eager customers in- a fair and honest trade. GY5 decided to follow in her footsteps by setting up their own, portable mini business! They produced chocolate rice crispy cakes, cocktail sticks with luxurious pineapples, sweet oranges, and soft pink and white marshmallows, and lightly dipped in melted chocolate. They also sold drinks, muffins, rainbow dust, lollipops, chocolate balls and an array of enticing crisps. GY5 allocated each and every class in Al- Hijrah Primary an individual time to buy from our range of treats and goodies. During the first part of the Khadija (RA) is a remarkable role model who we can all learn from. She has fantastic qualities which, Insha Allah, we can all acquire. May Allah (SWT) shower her with blessings, forgiveness and a secure place in Jannah. Ameen! By Haleema and Sara GY5 After a successful, hectic, but enjoyable day, GY5, with bated breath, counted up the money and raised an amazing profit of… approximately £135! Journalism Team A huge Thank You to all those that participated in supporting and backing GY5`s mini business, especially Sister Menerah and Sister Nahida who constantly supported and encouraged GY5 to do their best and give it their all. This fantastic book is all about a homeless tramp or so called ‘Soap dodger’, who finds himself a new best friend Chloe. Yes, he does smell a huge lot - bit he is the only person who has ever appreciated Chloe’s acts of kindness. And so when Mr. Stink needs a place to stay, Chloe steps up and decides to hide him in the unused garden shed. A few weeks later, Mr. Stink decides to accompany Chloe on one of her journeys just to enjoy the fresh air, but she soon finds out a huge and terrible secret about Mr. Stink that will change her life forever.. And there just might be more to Mar stink than meets the eye…or a nose in my opinion! “EVERYONE HAS A STORY TO TELL!” By Lamees K GY6 Overall, this book is extremely good for a quick laugh. David Williams flair of writing is beyond compare and his humour is endless. Most stories have morals and the message behind this story was that you should not judge a person by their appearance, but by their character. Personally, I would recommend this book for ages 9 to 13.However,this is just a recommended age group but this particular book is for all to read. Or in Mr Stink’s words, Exclusive interview with play leader: Idrees Ahmed What is it like being a play leader Idrees? It is awesome because you are in charge and tell people what to do. Do you feel pressure being a play leader? Yes because you have to carry heavy equipment everywhere and everyday, but I don't mind its good to keep fit and strong. What skills are you gaining from being a play leader? I am learning self belief, responsibility and time management. These are really important skills to have because when you I am older , hopefully these skills stay with me Inshallah! Any other comments that you would like to share with us? An amazing PE teacher ; she teachers important skills in how to be a play leader and how to value sportsmanship. Thank You Sr Claire. By Ismail Y BY6 Well , I really recommend more pupils to become a play leader as I'm learning more about myself and others. Sr. Claire is amazing SUPER SCRATCH Dear Diary, What an amazing term of computing! I love learning about Scratch, and I rate it 10 out of 10. What I like about the Scratch programme is that it is a highly engaging, and interactive program that teaches the principles of computer programming in a child friendly way. I love the fact that I can create can create animated stories and video games . However, it is not Page 2 easy to do this. I have definitely struggled as learning the skills wasn't easy. My confidence in computing has improved and I cant wait to learn more skills during computing lessons. Our next focus in computing will be about “Around the world” - where we learn about how computers work. Who knows – maybe in the future ill be able to produce my own exciting programmes and video games. That would surely be a dream come true... By Adam E BY5 Al-Hijrah’s Pupil Post What are you waiting for? Watch Star Wars... On December 13th 2016, Lucas film released their 7th, yet amazing episode of their stupendous series: Star Wars. This movie was set after its previous when luke sky walker finds out that the malevolent Sith Lord ,Darth Vader is his father; he must fulfill his destiny (to kill his father ) nevertheless he is reluctant to do so. He finally finds the courage to stand up to his father, but instead fights his father’s master , Darth Sidius -an almighty Sith lord who can easily kill Luke however, his father couldn’t stand to watch his son die ,therefore he kills his master. Darth Vader uses up all his energy and also dies… This movie was an extremely fantastic sic -fi that got 8.9 /10 on IMDB, that’s brilliant! The producers were really proud of the way they structured the movie, and the director even abandoned the new Star Trek film to direct this one. I found that movie a wonderful experience and I recommend that if you haven’t seen the movie yet, then what are you waiting for? I can’t wait to watch many more Star War films in the future. Ali (RA) had the most special and strongest weapon which was the double bladed sword given to him by the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW) . As the whole school at Al-Hijrah have been learning about the heroes of Islam, 4a and 4b have been doing activities to represent how Ali (RA) lived his life. Ali (RA) was a courageous man and he fought in many battles. Once he fought the strongest man in Mecca and won. He has 21 sons and 15 daughters from the 4 wives he married. He was the son of Khattab. Umar spent his early years working with his father, grazing the animals that belonged to him. Unfortunately, Umar’s strict father would beat him when he got distracted the slightest bit. Umar grew into a strong, feared, tall man who was even feared by the Quriash. Prophet Muhammed (pbuh) made a dua to Allah (swt) to either make Umar or Abu Jahl to come to Islam. This dua was accepted and Umar (RA) became a Muslim. Due to this, the strong laws , laws that even his sons would not escape from? He was such a great Muslim that he became the second Khalifa. Umar (RA), a fierce , tall man , died when Abu Lu-Lu thought that Umar wasn’t being just and stabbed him with a poisoned dagger. A mirical here is that the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) , Quraish became weaker. Umar was known for being just. He had Abu Bakr (RA), and Umar (RA) all died at the age of 63. By Shahir BY5 Salman Al-Farsi (RA) The story of our hero Salman begins when he was a youngster. His people were fire worshippers and he too began to follow their traditions. He became the custodian of the fire so had to keep the fire always burning. Salman was not comfortable with this belief and soon began a journey to find the truth. He first went to a monk and began to watch his worship. He thought that this was better than fire worship. Before long, Salman left his town and headed to Syria which was a centre for this belief. In Syria, he served under another monk who Page 4 was in charge of the church. He would observe the prayers and worship as well as look after the elderly gentleman. When the monk passed away, another one took over who too was devoted to worship and prayer. Salman served under a few such holy men. The monk told Salman about a prophet who was expected in a distant land called Arabia. He taught Salman all about this prophet and what to look for. When Salman met some Arab traders, he spoke to them and they agreed to take him. One day, he was working in the hot sun and heard talk of the prophet coming to Madina. Everyone seemed very excited and Salman wondered if this could be the prophet the monk had told him about. That night Salman went and spoke to the Prophet (pbuh). He took some dates to test him if he was this awaited Prophet. He spoke to him and found he was exactly as the monk had told him. Salman's long journey had ended and he became a pious and respected Muslim. Al-Hijrah’s Pupil Post Hero’s of Islam from year 1,2 and 3. Abu Bakr (RA) Asalam Alakum to my brothers and sisters. Abu Bakr (RA) was born around 573 C.E in Makkah. His real name was Abdullah and the prophet Muhammad (SAW) gave him the title As-Siddiq; the truthful one. This was because he was always truthful and never lied no matter what. Rasulullah (SAW) had complete trust in his closest companion. The prophet (SAW) said: “Whenever I offered Islam to anyone they always showed some reluctance and hesitation and tried to enter into an argument. Abu Bakr was the only person who ac- Volume 1, Issue 2 Abu Bakr’s character Abu Bakr was a very wealthy man yet he did not show greed or arrogance. A famous example is when he freed the slave Bilal from UmMayah. Many people thought that he was wasting his money however they were proved wrong when Bilal rose to the status of the Muadhin. Abu Bakr’s conversion to Islam When Abu Bakr (RA) heard that the prophet (SAW) had been chosen by Allah (SWT) as his final messenger, he accepted this and converted to Islam immediately. He believed in what Rasulullah (SAW) told him and trusted him. Abu Bakr was the first person outside Rasulullah (SAW)’s family to become Muslim. This shows how much trust he had in our beloved prophet (SAW). (The Hijrah). He was always honest and always believed in the prophet. He would always give the prophet his belongings in battle to purchase weapons. Abu Bakr tried to achieve many goals in his life. He always obeyed cepted Islam without any reluctance or hesitation, and without any argument. Abu Bakr’s relationship with Rasulullah (SAW) Abu Bakr was the closest companion of the prophet (SAW). This is why the prophet (SAW) told Abu Bakr to travel with him to Madinah Allah and loved helping the prophet (SAW). He also tried his best to help the needy. By Mayyah T GY6 Page 5 Mahim Zaman in GY8 writes to Queen Elizabeth Your majesty, Queen Elizabeth, I have the honour to inform you my opinion of what to do with Queen Mary of Scotland. There are a number of options you have, so please don't act too hastily and consider my suggestions. Obviously, you can just execute her and I have a number of reasons to support why you should do so. Mary is a Catholic while you are a Protestant. Although the Catholics recognise your rule, the catholic world officially denies the legality of your father's marriage to Ann Boleyn, since they don't recognise the annulment of his marriage to Catherine of Aragon. Under the Catholic interpretation, this makes you quite unfit and illegitimate to rule. Therefore, from a Catholic's viewpoint, Mary is a suitable queen for them, and this can cause several problems such as selfish individuals committing treachery, yourself getting murdered, and countries starting war to allow Mary to receive the crown of England. However, there are a number of reasons why you should prevent the execution of Mary Queen of Scotland. Catholic countries, predictably Spain, could get extremely angry and start war as a form of revenge. Catholic countries would obviously want Mary to be Queen, and executing Mary would frustrate them severely. Also, keeping her in prison for about 19 years would upset her severely, as she came here for a totally different cause. She has become extremely despondent to hear the news of her death coming near, so it would also be a downright and unwise decision to kill Mary. Therefore, you may as well consider my third solution stated below. Keeping the execution consideration aside, you may as well torture her and let her free. The torture is mainly due to the crime she was caught guilty of. In the presence of doing this, Catholic countries and individuals wouldn't impact your suggestion severely, and Mary would have better feelings as well. You may disagree with letting Mary free, as it could also cause her to murder you. Therefore I leave that suggestion upon your choice, and you can decide what to do with her after torture. Instead of acknowledging such a mortifying retribution, it could be a correct resolution to forget about execution. Thank you for reading my suggestions and I hope this helps in considering your decision. Yours Sincerely, Mahim Zaman (GY8) Learning Arabic is so much fun! During this half term ,GY6 have been learning about different sports in their Arabic lessons. Amazingly, the girls have been able to talk about their favorite sports and giving their opinions in full sentences in Arabic. How fabulous is that? Here is what Mayyah from GY6 had to say about her Arabic lessons . “I absolutely looooooooove learning Arabic with Sr Doa and Sr Mey especially this half term as we have had lots of fun learning about the different sports in Arabic. I have enjoyed practicing my Arabic at home as well as being in school with my friends”. By Maryam Zubbair GY6 What’s the BIG DEAL??? A raised level of expectations of the new curriculum means that pupils need to learn the times table up to 12 x 12 by the end of year four - when children turn nine, whereas before pupils were required to learn their times tables up to 10 x 10 by the time they left primary school at age 11. Knowing the multiplication tables by heart is key to building confidence in mathematics and essential for the more complex maths which pupils will encounter as they progress through their education. A quick recall of multiplication tables really benefits from constant repetition. Get into the habit of practising times tables whenever the opportunity presents itself, but only do it in short bursts. Sing along –a rap style song for the times tables which has a catchy tune and also uses rhyming words that rhyme with the answer allows children to memorize and learn the times tables faster. At Al-Hijrah School we have put together our own rap style songs for the times tables using the ideas from Mr NK Tunes. Here are some Websites for parents and teachers ;these games which are against the clock challenge and develop a child's mental maths skills. https://www.mymaths.co.uk/ https://www.purplemash.com/login/ http://learn-timestables.com/ A learning pack taken from ‘TheSchoolRun’ website includes worksheets, puzzles and games to help children understand times tables and have fun at the same time! Well done to everyone that participated in the time tables competition . Everyone were fantastic with their rhyming lyrics and actions to go with the timetable raps. Well done to Reception and GY5 who both did exceptionally well and won the timetables competition. BarakAllhu feekum, Sr Lutfa , Are you up for a challenge?!!! Who is up for a mathematical challenge? You can hand in your answers to myself—Lutfa or your class teachers to receive a prize of 50 E-praise points. Wahoo! Goodluck Everyone! KS1 KS2
