schoolsonaday-to-daybasis.
Teacher-studentrelationship,animportantaspectcoveredinthe2daysi-torneylegalliteracyworkshopwasorganizedforthestudentsand
teachersofShivpuri
Shivpuri-Teachersplayavitalroleinshapingyoungmindsandthefutureofthestudents.Whetherastudentperformswellorworseinfuture,orbecomesa
genius or a failure is primarily dependent on the student-teacher relationship. Therefore, they should complement each other. With the traits of
commitment,serviceanddedication,ateachercannotonlycontinuetogainrespectfromhis/herstudents,butalsobecometheirrolemodelandsourceof
inspirationandmotivation.
Caningisnotawayouttoeducateanddisciplinethestudents.Thiswillnotonlyresultinateacherbeingpenalizedforstrikingoutatthechildrenandusing
corporalpunishmentoranyotherwaytoharassthem,butwillalsogethim/herthe‘honor’ofbeingrewardedwiththetagofaharasserbyhisveryown
students.Thus,itisveryimportantforteacherstoknowhowtoteachchildren,insteadofusingthetoolofpunishmenttomakethemlearn.Itisessential
that a teacher assesses the performance of his/her students during classes and treats them equally. Only then can the important role of a teacher be
understoodandfulfilled.
ThismodelofsynergybetweentheteachersandstudentswasfacilitatedbyMrBaladevanRangarajuduringthe2days’“i-torneylegalliteracyworkshopfor
teachers and students,” at the Bal Shiksha Niketan School, Shivpuri. Rangaraju provided knowledge and expertise to teachers on the practice of rules,
disciplineandlaws.Inaconciseandeasy-to-understandmanner,thefacilitatorexplainedtheimportanceoftheRTEandPOCSOActstotheteachersand
underlinedtheindispensableknowledgeoftheRTEandPOCSOActsfortheteachersandstudentsrespectively.Heemphasizedthat,“itisalsoimperative
thatoureducationsystemisinlinewiththeselawsandpolicies.”Itisinthiscontextthatthelegalliteracyworkshopwasorganizedforthestudentsand
teachers.Besidesthis,theunderstandingofthelawswasalsosimplifiedfortheteachersthroughtheNitiExpressstories,anIndiaInstituteinitiativeairedon
RadioMantra91.9FM.
TheworkshopbeganwiththecandlelightingceremonytoinvoketheblessingsofGoddessSaraswati,theGoddessoflearning,wisdomandknowledge.Smt
UrmiDewan,ShPadmeshThapriyal,Principal-HappyDaysSchool,ShMahipalArora,Manager-GuruNanakSchoolwereafewamongtheotherspresent
duringtheworkshop.
Theworkshopwitnessedtheparticipationofteachersfrommorethanhalfadozenschoolsinthecitywhowerecuriousandexcitedtoknowabouttheirlegal
rights.Also,thestudent-teacherrelationshipwaswellunderstoodthroughvariousactivitiesconductedduringtheworkshop.Theworkshopconcludedwith
thethankyouaddressdeliveredbySmtBinduChhibber,DirectorattheBalShikshaNiketanSchool,Shivpuri.
Thelegalawarenessworkshopwillbeconductedforstudentstoday
Theseconddayofthe“i-torneylegalliteracyworkshop,”conductedbytheIndiaInstitute,washeldforstudentsonSaturday,February18,2017between
9:30amto12:00pmattheBalShikshaNiketanSchool.Studentsfromdifferentschoolsofthecityhadbeeninvitedtotakepartintheworkshop,inorderto
increasetheirawarenessonlegalrights.
