Hot spoon bathing - Derby Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

Hot spoon
bathing
1. Wrap a piece of clean material around the end of a wooden spoon to form a
pad, eg. a small cotton tea towel.
2. Bend over a bowl of very hot water. Dip the pad into the water and bring it
up CLOSE to the sore eye - which must be kept shut.
3. To avoid scalding, DO NOT let the pad touch the eye.
4. When the pad cools, dip it again.
5. Keep the water hot by adding fresh water as necessary.
Repeat for a period of 15 minutes, as many times a day as directed.
