TEKS 5.5A Monday, Sept 5, 2016 School Holiday Tuesday, Sept 6, 2016 OBJ: (Scientific Investigation and Reasoning) Classifying matter Lesson: The student is expected to classify matter based on physical properties, including mass, magnetism, physical state (solid, liquid, and gas), relative density (sinking and floating), solubility in water, and the ability to conduct or insulate thermal energy or electric energy. Vocabulary Matter, Mass, Properties, Magnetism, Physical State, Relative Density, Solubility, Thermal Energy, Electrical Energy, Conductor, Insulator, Classify Lesson: TSW take notes over the three states of matter: solid, liquid, and gas Activity: TSW create flap book explaining the states of matter.TSW demonstrate their understanding of what particles are doing during each state of matter. TSW make a particle diagram. Computer day Wednesday, Sept 7, 2016 OBJ: (Scientific Investigation and Reasoning) Classifying Matter: Density Lesson: TSW discuss and answer the following questions through science investigation: What is density and what objects are less or more dense than water? Activity: TSW take notes in their comp book over Density. TSW conduct a lab to demonstrate density using water. Thursday Sept 8, 2016 OBJ: (Scientific Investigation and Reasoning) Classifying Matter Lesson: The student is expected to classify matter based on physical properties, including mass, magnetism, physical state (solid, liquid, and gas), relative density (sinking and floating), solubility in water, and the ability to conduct or insulate thermal energy or electric energy. Activity: TSW complete a lab over solubility. What substances will dissolve in water? We will go through Motivation Science pages 9 & 10 as guided practice and p 11 & 12 as independent practice. Homework: Complete MS p 11 &12 if not finished in class Friday Sept 9, 2016 OBJ: (Scientific Investigation and Reasoning) Classifying Matter Activity: TSW either finish up our Motivation Science or lab activities. No test due to short week. The States of Matter Project will their test grade. It is due September 19th.
