Machinery (Line and Tone)
How can you describe the art
words: line, tone, colour,
shape, and texture? You could
make an artwork using all of
these, or make a poster, a
book, a presentation.

Japanese art but modern Japan also has a
fascinating culture. Find out about modern
Japan and Japanese art and culture. Make
a booklet, poster or artwork.

Term 2
Pattern
Pattern is all around us. It’s on
curtains, fabrics, in magazines,
wrapping paper, railings,
bricks, nature. Collect patterns
and make your own pattern
book, collage, painting or
patterned sculpture.
There will be assessment

to improve given. Students will
have the whole project to
complete the work.
Human Beings
Create a detailed tonal drawing of your
favourite celebrity using the grid method.
The drawing should be as life like and
accurate as possible. Draw the portrait on
A4 or A3 paper. Evaluate the work you
have produced.

Term 3
Landscape
The world around us is a
fascinating subject. Record
your local landscape. For
example this can be a drawing
of the view out of your window,
photographs from the park, a
painting of the beach. This is a
whole terms homework so
make a fantastic piece of work
that is well presented.

Surrealism
Create a mini booklet on a surrealist artist.
Fill the book until it is bulging with facts,
pictures, pastiches, and opinions on the
life and work of your artist.

Cultural Studies
Art from other times and
cultures can be surprising,
interesting and give us a view
of life around the world.
Choose an aspect of art or
culture from another country to
research and present to the
class. You can make a poster,
booklet, artwork or
presentation. You can work
alone or in a group of up to
three.

Architecture
Design a cityscape inspired by the artist
you are studying in class. The colours and
patterns used by your artist will affect the
shape and design of your city. Use
watercolour and pencil to add colour to
your design.

Juicy Vessels
Research the artist Kate
Malone. Present your findings
in any suitable form. The work
will be presented at the end of
the project. Be as imaginative
and original as possible in the
creation and presentation of
your work.

Book Cover Illustration
Do you have a favourite illustrator? It could
be from when you were small, or it might
be one of the artists we look at in class.
Make a copy (pastiche) of their work and
find out facts about the artist. You can
present as a poster or mini booklet.

Bird Life and Abstraction
Create an abstract artwork
using any media and materials
you choose. You can make a
sculpture, collage, drawing or
painting. Explain how and why
the work is abstract and how it
relates to the artists we have
studied in class.

Green Man
There is a great British tradition of folk art.
The Green Man, Morris Dancers, ships
figure heads. Research any aspect of
British folk art and make an artwork or
presentation. The work will be presented
at the end of the project.
