About Our City
Settled in 1848,
McKinney, a mere 30
minutes north of Dallas,
is one of the oldest and
most historic cities in
Texas. The people of
McKinney lovingly
embrace the history of what was, until just a few
years ago, still a small town. A tremendous
growth spurt between 2000 and 2006 resulted in
www.visitmckinney.com

a nearly 98 percent population explosion,
earning the city the title of “Fastest Growing
City in America” not once but twice. In 2014,
Money Magazine and CNNMoney.com ranked
McKinney as #1 on its Best Places to Live in
America list in 2014. In previous years,
McKinney has ranked #2 (2012), #5 (2010) and
#14 (2008), the only Texas city to rank on four
consecutive lists. And in January 2016, the
census reported McKinney’s population at
roughly 162,000.
While fostering the small town feel and working
to preserve the city’s historic legacy, the people
of McKinney are busy implementing progressive
development in the city, focusing both on
environmental issues and commercial growth.
McKinney offers its visitors a little piece of
Texas history while they enjoy eclectic shopping
and dining opportunities and ample places to
stay from full service hotels to quaint bed and
breakfast inns. Consider McKinney when
planning your next meeting – you’ll be glad you
did!
While in McKinney for your meeting or event,
we invite you and your attendees to spend some
time sampling what McKinney has to offer,
from its eclectic downtown shops and
restaurants to its sports complexes and golf
courses. There is even a Croatian-inspired
village coming to life in the western section of
town. We encourage you to visit McKinney so
you’ll learn first-hand why McKinney prides
itself on being “Unique by Nature.”
