AP/IB StudioArt SummerAssignments CONGRATULATIONS on registering for one of the most challenging & rewarding classes this school has to offer! After taking this course you will be an informed and critical decision-maker as you develop a portfolio that is personal to your individual talents and interests, while demonstrating mastery of art principles. You will explore your creativity and become an independent thinker in your contributions to art and culture. First thing... e-mail me with a Gmail account so I will have your e-maill address. I will then send you an invite to join the AP/IB Studio Art Google doc folder for the course. I have created three assignments for you to jump-start your creative process. Each assignment is to be created in the medium you are most familiar. Each one of you should have had two courses in an art area prior to signing up for this course. The majority of your work this year will be created in that medium. Each assignment has a research, planning, studio, and reflection component to them. They will be collected and graded the first week of school. These are to recorded in your research workbook/visual arts journal. Along with your three summer assignments I would like each one of you to present five previously created pieces of artwork in a “finished” state. These eight finished pieces are due on the first Tuesday of school in class. “Finished” means reworked if necessary. AP/IB Studio Art Summer Assignments Rework and/or finish five previously created assignments from your art course last year. Have these five and the new three ready to put on display the first week of school. Abstract Letters Design a composition using positive and negative space. Using the lines of the letter, create even amounts of positive and negative space within the whole design. The space values should move across the design creating movement for the eye. B i c y c l e Develop your perceptual skills by setting up a still life of a bicycle and create an interesting composition as your subject matter. Do several gesture drawings of the composition in your workbook before you start on your final piece. Foreshotening Create an art piece that uses foreshortening as a key component in the composition. Think about distortion and perspective in the space. Use color to enhance the feeling of the subject matter coming out of the picture plane. Detailed instructions, examples and rubrics for each project are in the AP/IB Studio Art Folder on the google docs I will share with you once you e-mail me at [email protected]
