Chapter I of the Constitutions
in the Friary House Chapters
ŸŸ Friar Timothy Kulbicki, CERC/CIRC Secretary
The majority of friaries throughout the world (between 50-60%) participated in the
review of the draft of Chapter I of the Constitutions as a continuing formation process
regarding our identity.
Many thanks go to the CIRC members, the jurisdictional reference friars of the Province/
Custody/Delegation and to the House Chapter secretaries.
The majority of the friars appreciated the more Franciscan and spiritual tone of the new
text as well as the citations from the writings of Francis.
Some friars expressed some discomfort regarding a perceived centralization of the Order
and the competency of Conferences/Federations. Some further suggested varying the way of
referencing St. Francis.
No clear consensus emerged on the two alternatives presented (No. 9, §3, on the clerical
identification of the Order and No. 37, §2, on the obligation of affiliation ad tempus to the
regional jurisdiction).
Over 600 suggestions (the majority of which were editorial or stylistic in nature) arrived
back at CERC, all of which will be examined during the preparation of the second official draft.

MiReFALC Meeting in Argentina
ŸŸ Friar Roberto Carboni, OFM Conv.
On July 13-19, 2015, members of MiReFALC (Ministry of Reflection of the Federación
Conventuales America Latina) came together for their annual meeting
at the house of the De La Salle Brothers in Cordoba, Argentina.
Also present were the Minister General, Friar Marco Tasca; the Assistant General for Latin

write about the Franciscan Order in Latin America and other issues regarding formation, spirituality and Franciscan theology. This year’s guests were Friar Giulio Cesareo from the Seraphicum in Rome and Friar Guillermo Spirito from the Theological Institute of Assisi.
One of the main objectives of the meeting was organizing the Congress for the 70th anniversary of the Conventual Franciscan presence in Latin America. The Congress will be held in
Rio de Janeiro in 2016. In addition to review and discussion, various friars proposed articles for
publication and plans were discussed for the next issue of the magazine Decires, the official
publication of MiReFALC.
The work week ended with a pilgrimage to Chamical, the site of the martyrdom of Friar
Carlos Murias. He was our confrere who was killed for his commitment to proclaim the Gospel

The vocational situation in the Custody of the Orient is opening up to new prospects, with
young people coming from a land that hosts as many as 11 different Christian denominations
including: Latin Catholics, Maronites, Armenians, Copts, Chaldeans, Greek Orthodox and Greek
Catholics, etc. This is in addition to a strong Muslim presence, which also has its own variations
(Sunnis, Shiites and Ishmaelites).
Recently, two young Lebanese friars currently studying in Rome, Friar Elias Paul Marswanian
and Friar Elias Turk, renewed their religious vows.

Friar Jarosław Wysoczański
Secretary General of the SGAM
Disciples of Jesus
ŸŸ Friar Jarosław Wysoczański, OFM Conv.
On the evening of February 3, 2014, Holy Father Francis held a private audience
with His Eminence, Angelo Cardinal Amato, S.D.B. (Salesians of Don Bosco),
Prefect of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints.
The Pope authorized the Congregation to promulgate the Decree of Martyrdom of the Servants of God Miguel Tomaszek, OFM Conv., Zbigniew Strzałkowski, OFM Conv., and Alessandro
Dordi, a diocesan priest from the Diocese of Bergamo.
It is now known that the beatification will be celebrated in Chimbote, Peru, on Sunday, December 5, 2015. The next day, in Pariacoto, there will be a Mass of thanksgiving celebrated with
the participation of the mission and the representatives of CONFER Peru (Peru’s Conference of
Men’s and Women’s Major Superiors).
In the last few months, the beatification has prompted the celebration of Masses of thanksgiving to God. The first were in Santa and Pariacoto (Peru), then in several places in Rome, for
example, the General Curia of the Jesuits. That Mass included a group of Peruvian religious
who worked in Peru along with the Most Reverend Pedro Barreto, Bishop of Huancayo (Peru)
who met with the martyrs when they first arrived in Peru.
Other initiatives were carried out in Poland, such as the meeting at the formation house in
Cracow, the Poor Clare’s retreat in Miedniewice, missionary animation in Warsaw and Legnica,
and even some coverage in the mass media: television, radio and several newspapers.
The Minister General, his Definitory and the friars in charge of the beatification have developed a project to help discover the signs, prophecy and mystery of God through the martyrdom of Friar Miguel, Friar Zbigniew and Father ‘Sandro’. Raising awareness of the lives of the
martyrs, in the context of the beatification of the friars of Peru, requires a team of animators or
a travelling fraternity, within and for the mission. On the 24th anniversary of the martyrdom,
the team will visit Pariacoto and all the communities of the mission, in order to listen and
report on memories about the martyrdom of the friars. The event will bring together the religious and laity concerned, the people and the Church in Peru.

It Is Impossible to Be a Christian Without Being a Martyr...
ŸŸ Friar Jarosław Wysoczański, OFM Conv.
On July 7-10, 2015, a missionary animation workshop was held for religious and secular
religious leaders, laypersons, religious and friars of the Delegation of Peru. The event took
place in Ñaña, Peru.
This was in response to a missionary animation project to raise awareness and support
ahead of the beatification of the martyrs of Peru, Friars Miguel Tomaszek, Zbigniew Strzałkowski
and Father Alessandro Dordi. The workshop in Ñaña offered reflections to help discover the
signs, prophecy and the mystery of God through the martyrdom of our friars. About 20 people
attended the event, which was led by the Benedictine monk, Fr. Simon Pedro Arnold.
He reflected on the themes: “The Theological Foundation of Martyrdom”; “What Happened
Between Early Christianity and the Council of Nicaea (325)?”; “The Religious System of Christianity Inherited in Peru”; “How to Retrieve the Insight and Originality of the Early Christian Communities”; “The Situation and Great Challenges Facing Peru Today”; and “What To Do Regarding the Situation of the Peruvian Church Today and the Challenge of the Future Beatification”.

ŸŸ Friar Jarosław Wysoczański, OFM Conv.
During August 5-15, 2015, three formation events were held in preparation
for the upcoming beatification of the Friar-Martyrs of Peru.
The participants included the Secular Franciscans from our Franciscan communities in Lima
and Pariacoto, various religious from CONFER Peru (Peru’s Conference of Men’s and Women’s
Major Superiors) and a number of friars from the Delegation of Peru.
The first event was a retreat, the second was a seminar and the third was a missionary experience. All three were organized by the General Secretariat for Missionary Animation (SGAM)
and the Delegation of Peru.
The first days were dedicated to getting ready for the seminar and for the various groups of
secular and consecrated participants to get to know each other.

Course for New Missionaries - Brussels 2015
ŸŸ Friar Alphonse Vazhappanady, OFM Conv., SGAM Member
The English language version of the course for new missionaries began on September 1st.
The thirteen friars participating are Capuchins, Conventuals and OFM’s, and are staying
at the friary of Our Lady of the Nations in Brussels. They are preparing for their missions in
Uganda, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Ghana, Congo, Denmark, the Philippines and India (Arunachel
Pradesh and Andhrapradesh).
The course is directed by Friar Gianfrancesco Sisto, OFM, and animated by Friar Alphonse
Vazhappanady, OFM Conv. It will cover numerous topics including justice, peace and the integrity of creation, secularism in Europe, mission work in Asia, the cultures and religions of
Africa, fraternal finances in the missions and the role of the leader.
At the conclusion of the course there will be a weeklong pilgrimage to Assisi and other
Franciscan sites to hopefully share in the mission spirit and desire of the Poverello. The course
is intended not only to share theoretical knowledge, but also, and much more importantly,
to be an experience of fraternal life lived as mission: a simple life style, with an openness to
fraternal sharing of experiences and life, an opportunity for a full prayer schedule, the sharing
of house work and some pastoral activities, and doing ministry among the poor and homeless
who are welcomed at the two friaries (Capuchin and Conventual) in the city. The following participants are friars from our Order: Friar Tomislaw Cvetko, Friar Jerry Mathew Pathikattil, Friar
Thomas Uzhathuval, Friar Jerome Kuriyedom, Friar Basil Maniparambil, Friar Linus Bayacan and
Friar Alphonse Vazhappanady.

April 26, 2015, by Pope Francis in St. Peter’s Basilica. After finishing the school year, he celebrated his first Mass on Saturday, July 4 at his home parish of St. Anthony of Padua in Drijenča,
Bosnia-Herzegovina. Many friars of the Province attended, together with the Assistant General
of the Conferentia Europae Centralis (CEC), Friar Miljenko Hontić, and nearly five-hundred of
Friar Stjepan’s friends, relatives and local townsfolk.
Friar Filip was ordained a priest on June 20, 2015, by His Eminence Josip Cardinal Bozanić,
Archbishop of Zagreb. He celebrated his first Mass in Zagreb on Sunday, July 12. The clerical
students of the Province provided very solemn liturgical service for the first Masses of both of
the young priests. At the end of each Mass, everyone sang the Te Deum accompanied by the
choir of St. Anthony of Padua parish in Zagreb. One can find the Te Deum expressed at the
beginning of every priestly vocation and at the end of every pastoral activity.
We wish that our brothers, Friar Stjepan and Friar Filip, might be true witnesses of Christ,
always remembering the example of St. Francis as a saint of humility, poverty and minority.

CEC Assembly and Conventual Day in Germany
ŸŸ Friar Miljenko Hontić, OFM Conv.
On September 6-9, 2015, the Province of Germany held a spiritual gathering at the friary
in Schwarzenberg.
The purpose of the gathering was to prepare the friars for the Provincial Chapter to be held
this coming October. Twenty-two friars of the Province attended along with Friar Bernhardin
Seither the Minister Provincial, Friar Mathias Moons, a Delegate of the Provincial Delegation
of Holland and Friar Miljenko Hontić, the Assistant General for the Conferentia Europae Centralis (CEC). Because the event was open to all, there were additional friars present besides the
Chapter Delegates. The gathering was led by Friar Dr. Thomas Dienberg, OFM Cap., a specialist
in Franciscan Spirituality. The theme was “Community and Community Leadership/Government”. The participants were very open and creative and at the end of the gathering everyone
was really pleased with the content and the fraternal atmosphere they had experienced over
the three days.
Immediately after the gathering, the participants moved to Würzburg, where friars of the
Province were joined by friars from the Polish Provincial Delegations in Germany. They came
together to celebrate the so-called “Minoritentag” or Conventual Day in Germany. Mass was
celebrated in the morning with the Minister Provincial presiding. A conference followed, led
by the same Friar Dr. Thomas who spoke on: “The Status Quo of Religious Mendicants in Europe”. The conference concluded with a visit to the “Juliusspital”: a foundation which includes
one of the oldest pharmacies in Germany, a hospital founded by the Prince of Franconia, and
a winery that was originally part of the complex. It all ended with a wine-tasting of the local
vintage produced on site and some fraternal exchange among the friars present.

A formation course was held in the Czech Republic, July 5-25, for friars
who were celebrating their 10th anniversary of solemn vows this year.
Seventeen friars from the Provinces of Poland and the Custody of Russia participated in
the course.
The aim of the training course–which lasted about three weeks – was to offer content that
allowed the friars to make a report and evaluation of their life in Order so far, and to prepare a
formation program for the coming years.
Normally, the program is carried out in two stages. The first stage features lectures in Theology, Church History, Franciscanism and Psychology. The second features a spiritual retreat.
While staying in the Czech Republic, the participants had the opportunity to meet with
local Franciscans, visit the most important friaries and admire the countryside of Bohemia and
Moravia.

The visitation continued through September 10 and was made at the behest of the Minister General, Friar Marco Tasca.
This first part of the canonical visitation began at the Niepokalanów friary, about 42 km (26
miles) from Warsaw, the capitol of Poland. Niepokalanów is also known as the “City of the Immaculate”. It was founded in 1927 by the Conventual Franciscan St. Maximilian Kolbe. He was a
priest who was martyred at Auschwitz and canonized by Pope John Paul II in 1982.

Fraternal Visit to Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan
ŸŸ Friar Jacek Ciupiński, OFM Conv.
From 29 June to July 3, 2015, Friar Jacek Ciupiński, the Assistant General
for the Conferentia Europae Orientalis (CEO), made a fraternal visit to the mission
in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan. From August 25 to September 9, he also visited
the friars of the Provincial Delegation of Uzbekistan (a missio sui iuris
or “independent mission”).
Between late June and early July, Friar Jacek was able to spend some time with the three
friars in Kazakhstan. They are engaged in the pastoral care of a small parish and take part in
cultural, ecumenical and interreligious dialogue. During the visit, the Assistant General, together with the friars, met both the Archbishop of Astana and the Apostolic Nuncio to Kazakhstan. Together, they discussed the current situation and the future of our mission.
While he was in Uzbekistan, Friar Jacek visited all the places where the friars reside. He also
met with the Most Reverend Jerzy Maculewicz, Bishop of Tashkent. The bishop is our confrere
and a former Assistant General for the CEO.
Uzbekistan currently has 7 friars in 4 presences of the Order: Tashkent, Samarkand, Bukhara
and Fergana. Although the Catholic presence in Uzbekistan is a tiny island – the country is
predominantly Muslim – there are still some young men in formation. This year there are two
postulants and a novice. Their period of initial formation is taking place in the Province of

General Canonical Visitation in Malta
ŸŸ Friar Jude Winkler, Assistant General for the CFC
From June 28 to July 14, Friar Jude Winkler, having been delegated by Friar Marco Tasca,
the Minister General, conducted a General Canonical Visitation to the St. Paul Province in
Malta.
There are forty-six solemnly professed friars in the Province assigned to seven friaries
throughout the islands of Malta and Gozo (with an eighth friary in Calcutta, India). Three of
the friaries are associated with parishes on the north side of Malta, while the other four friaries
have a large friary chapel where the friars provide ministry, especially the Sacrament of Reconciliation and Spiritual Direction.
One of their most renowned apostolates is the CAK ministry, a publishing house which
produces materials in Maltese (original and translated) for Catholics in Malta.
The Province is also known for its long standing commitment to the Missions. Maltese friars either founded or served in missions in England, Zambia, Lebanon, Turkey, Australia and
India. They have entered into a joint venture with the Province of India for the founding of a
new mission in Kolkota, India. Since the beginning of this year, two Maltese friars have been
assigned to London to provide ministry for patients sent there by the Maltese Government for
specialized medical care.
The friars were preparing for their Ordinary Provincial Chapter in September.

A Three-Month “Mission” on the Banks of the Tiber
ŸŸ Friar Paolo Fiasconaro, OFM Conv.
The Franciscan Missionary Center-ONLUS (Non-Profit Organization for Social Use)
is a work of the Conference of Intermediterranean Ministers Provincial (CIMP).
For the second year in a row (June 12 - August 30, 2015) it operated an exhibition booth on
the banks of the Tiber in Rome. The booth was set up to teach tourists and locals about Conventual Franciscan missionary activities going on in forty countries around the world.
The initiative was aimed at enriching the public leisure setting with cultural, artistic and
spiritual content. It came about in response to St. Francis’ invitation to “go out into the world
...” and Pope Francis’ invitation for the Church to “go forth from our own comfort zone in order
to reach all the peripheries”; even here, where people were taking time to make room for a
healthier lifestyle. During the three summer months, nearly two million people strolled along
the river walk and were able to enjoy the booth and its missionary proposals and activities.
They especially enjoyed the friars wearing their habits in such a “lay” environment of evening
promenades, entertainment and relaxation. People in this human river would look astonished,
stop, dialogue with the friars and walk on late into the night...they were looking for a smile,
some advice, a chance to vent their feelings or find their way again.
Anchored next to missionary booth was a giant, 8-meter high (26 ft.), inflatable St. Maximilian Kolbe, in his habit, reminding people about the Auschwitz concentration camp. It was
a beautiful way to call attention to the missionary spirit of this martyred Polish friar. It made it
clear to visitors that “Mission” has a value that displaces all ideologies. It taught that the concept of “Mission” contains the inherent values of altruism, sharing, volunteering, solidarity and
everything else that is positive in the human soul when people relate to each other.
One new thing this year was the presence of some clerical students from the Seraphicum
and two postulants from the Province of Rome who occasionally enlivened the river walk.
Also new this year was involvement from different groups of faithful connected with the Scalabrini Fathers. These faithful were members of various national folk groups living in Rome. The
groups, representing Mexico, Ecuador, Bolivia, Guatemala and Poland, performed in front of
the booth. They presented dances and songs and wore the traditional costumes of their lands.
The media took great interest in the novelty of the booth—resulting in two articles in the
newspaper Avvenire, a feature story in the magazine Testimoni, an extensive interview on
Vatican Radio and several TV reports by RAI and its Catholic stations in Mexico, Brazil, Latin
America and North America.

of the Federation of Intermediterranean Ministers Provincial (FIMP).
On August 24-29, 2015, the friar community in Brussels was pleased to host a group of
young friars in their first five years of solemn profession. These young men attend a formation
meeting each year. We were introduced to the style and pace of the community which puts
special emphasis on intense daily prayer, the Eucharist and Adoration. But there was also the
community’s daily work which included, among other things, distributing food to the poor
every week and welcoming the many young people who are starting to come here. Many of
them are attracted by the atmosphere of fraternity and prayer here and are eager to start on a
spiritual journey. A fraternal meeting was held with the entire community which helped us to
understand the beginnings and foundations of their community life.
Seventeen friars participated in the formation week. They came from different Provinces
of the FIMP. Also present were Friar Gianni Cappelletto, the coordinator for the week, Friar
Roberto Carboni, the Secretary General for Formation and Friar Francisco Bustillo, the Custos
of France, who offered a reflection on “Easter Fraternity”.
A day of fraternity took place outside of the friary with a pilgrimage to Our Lady of the Poor

Uganda: Children’s Pilgrimage to Munyonyo
ŸŸ The friars of the mission
Every year, the Archdiocese of Kampala holds a children’s gathering called “Bannakizito”
– “The Children of St. Kizito”. This year marks the ninth edition of that event. It took place on
Sunday, July 12, at the Shrine of the Ugandan Martyrs in Munyonyo.
The small chapel in Munyonyo has never seen such great crowds before. More than 10,000
children came, together with their parents and guardians. They represented all the primary
schools and parish groups of the Diocese. Even children from our Franciscan Matugga School
were there.
St. Kizito was the youngest of the Ugandan martyrs and was a servant in the court of
Mwanga II, the king of the Buganda tribe. Kizito died for Christ in Namugongo, being burned
alive at the stake on June 3, 1886. He was only 14 years old. A neophyte, he had just been baptized on May 26, a few days before his death. In Africa, he is the patron saint of children and
primary schools.

This event is held annually as a form of supportive guidance from the Province. This year’s
formation week was led by Friar Gianni Cappelletto, former Minister Provincial, and Friar Gilberto Depeder, Vice Rector of clerical students in Padua.
The formation week was a good opportunity for more deeply analyzing the reflection that
was developed last year on the friars’ twenty-year presence in Chile.
With the help of Friar Gianni and Friar Gilberto, the friars of the delegation reflected on the
past and the dreams driving the present and the future. Emphasis was placed on taking an
attitude of gratitude for what God has done in recent years and looking past personal fragility
and infidelity.
Participants were invited “to cross to the other shore” full of confidence with a positive outlook, apart from the results. Despite the hardships and worries, Friar Gilberto and Friar Gianni
urged the friars, hardships and worries notwithstanding, to: “not allow ourselves to be robbed
of the ideal of fraternal love!” (Evangelii Gaudium 101). They suggested that one should look
at his brother with the eyes of faith, as a companion on the journey. One must keep the spirituality of communion alive and have eyes that see, hearts that are merciful and hands and feet
open to welcoming others.

A number of Ministers Provincial were present as well: Friars Fidêncio Vanboemmel, Carlos Silva, Liomar

The attendees were aware of the historic importance of the meeting, not just because it was the first
time that lay brothers from all the Franciscan obediences had come together on such a national and world

2015 FALC Ongoing Formation Course
ŸŸ Friar Carlos A. Trovarelli, OFM Conv.
On September 5, the Federación Conventuales America Latina (FALC)
began its “Rivotorto Course” for ongoing Franciscan formation.
The four-week course started at the Seraphicum International College and continued, for
the most part, at the Protoconvento of St. Francis.
The Federation, with help from the government of the Order, has faithfully presented this
course for the last thirty years. The course is offered every two or three years and is particularly
aimed at younger and middle-aged friars.
A number of friaries opened their doors to the course participants and provided for their
needs. These friaries included the Seraphicum, Rivotorto, the Saint, Twelve Holy Apostles,
some of the General Houses and other area communities. This year, the friary at Tagliacozzo
also participated.
Twelve friars attended the course this year. Eighteen different Jurisdictions were represented: Rio Plata; Bolivia; Brazil-Brasilia; Brazil-Maranhão; Brazil-Rio de Janeiro; Brazil-Sao Paulo,
Colombia, Costa Rica, Honduras, Mexico, Paraguay and Venezuela. The coordinators for the
course were Friar Lindor Tofful (Rioplatense Province) and the Secretary General for Formation, Friar Roberto Carboni. Friars Evilasio Andrade da Silva and Jorge Fernández, both from
the Sacro Convento, assisted.
The methodology was varied and included guided visits to important Franciscan and
Church sites; lessons on Franciscanism, taught by some of our professors; sharing life and community together; visiting various friaries; having days for retreat and reflection, etc.
The celebration of the Feast of St. Francis was the crowning event of this fraternal formational experience.

Province of Japan: Ongoing Formation
ŸŸ Friar Benedict Baek, OFM Conv.
On September 2- 5, 2015, the friars of the Province of Japan gathered at the Seibono Kishi
Nagasaki friary to participate in their annual ongoing formation course.
The course was led by Friar Francesco Cocco, personal secretary of the Minister General
and a biblical scholar. He offered reflections on six passages of Luke’s Gospel, following the
theme: “The Gospel of Mercy”.
Also present was Friar Benedict Baek, Assistant General for the Federation of Asian Minor
Conventuals (FAMC). Friar Benedict made a presentation on the journey of the Order and the
development of the Six-Year Plan. The friars were very happy that the course helped them get
prepared for the Jubilee of Mercy that Pope Francis will launch starting next December 8.
At the conclusion of the meeting, on September 5, the friars celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of Friar Pietro Taki’s ordination to the priesthood, and fifty years of religious profession for
two confreres: Friar Alessio Matsushita and Friar Tommaso Tagawa. Many guests came to share
the joy of the anniversaries of our confreres.

Solemn Vows in Indonesia
ŸŸ Friar Samuel Simangunsong, OFM Conv.
Urged on by the spirit of St. Francis of Assisi to radically follow the poor and crucified
Christ, two young friars, Massimiliano Satya Graha Ginting and Norbertus Nana Manek,
professed their solemn vows into the hands of the Provincial Custos of Indonesia,
Friar Maximilian Sembiring.
The ceremony took place on the Feast of St. Bonaventure on Wednesday, July 15, 2015.
The Provincial Custos presided over the Mass, which was held at the St. Joseph Spouse parish church in Delitua.
In his homily, the Custos hoped that all the friars of the Custody, especially the two newlyprofessed ones, might seriously live out the charism of the Order in order to “wake up the
world” as Holy Father Francis said during this Year of Consecrated Life.
After Mass, the celebration continued with some leisure time and a formal lunch.

ŸŸ Friar Maximilian Sembiring, Provincial Custos
The rite of vesting took place during a Mass of the community with several friars of the
Custody present. Friar Maximilian Sembiring, the Provincial Custos, presided over the Mass
that included the rite of vesting.
The six novices are: 1) Andika Andreas Bastanta Sitepu (Friar Bernardinus), 2) Dede Permana Elia Bukit (Friar Leo), 3) Elias Hende (Friar Masseo), 4) Natanael Kristianus Ngai Liko (Friar
Yohanes Maria Vianei), 5) Rikardus Andu (Friar Angelo), and 6) Albertus Hendra Permana (Friar
Yosep Kopertino).
After the celebration, Friar Bayu Justianus Aprianto, immediately began his role as Novice
Master by holding his first formation meeting.
In a few months, a new novitiate will be built in Tiga Dolok, about 150 km from Tiga Juhar.
Both locations are found on the Island of Sumatra

Indonesian Novices Profess Vows
ŸŸ Friar Emmanuel L. Giva Jr., Custodial Secretary
On the Solemnity of the Assumption of Our Lady, two Indonesian novices, namely,
Justin Ginting and Randy Sembiring, professed their vows before Friar Maximilian
Sembiring, the Provincial Custos of the Custody of the Immaculate Conception
of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
The professions took place at St. Joseph’s Church in Tagaytay City in the Philippines. Friar
Hermanus Ginting was present as a special witness. Also attending were the postulants of the
Custody, some religious sisters and a few lay collaborators.
Last year, two novices from the Vietnam mission professed their vows in the Philippine
Custody while their remaining four classmates continued on in formation. This year, those four
completed their novitiate and went on to profess vows in their own Jurisdictions. The professions took place on the same day and around the same time. Meanwhile, three Sri Lankans
taking part in the common novitiate program of the Federation of Asian Minor Conventuals
(FAMC) will shortly complete their canonical year and likewise profess their religious vows.
The program for the new novitiate year starts on September 8.

On July 20-24, 2015, Brazil’s still-youthful St. Maximilian Kolbe Province celebrated its
fourth Ordinary Provincial Chapter in Brasilia (Federal District). The Minister General,

The Chapter was held at the large property which includes the St. Francis of Assisi Friary Shrine,
