Bryant Products, Inc. manufacturers a complete line of “precision grade” head and tail pulleys for
belt conveyor applications. These conveyor pulleys have uses in a wide variety of industries, including
food-handling applications where wash down is important.
Bryant Products’ Head and Tail Pulleys are constructed from a variety of materials and feature a “seamless end disc - rim - shaft connection”. This feature eliminates the trapping of debris or
bacteria, an important advantage in food handling applications.
There
are four major components to a Bryant Products’ pulley:

Rim (Outer Shell) - the cylindrical body of the pulley
End Discs - the “ends” of the pulley
Shaft - supports the pulley and provides the structure for bearing mounting
Lagging - an optional covering for the rim, which increases “pulley to belt” grip

Rims (sometimes referred to as the “outer shell”) for Bryant Head and Tail Pulleys are available in a number of materials, including mild steel, stainless steel, aluminum and PVC(Poly-Vinyl-Chloride). The rim is
mechanically attached to the pulley end discs to form a solid cylinder. The outer surface of the rim is
completely machined to provide excellent concentricity (TIR) and a good surface finish. Bryant Products’
pulleys are available in a variety of rim profiles, including straight face, tapered crown and trapezoidal
crown configurations. Crowning is often used on Bryant Head and Tail Pulleys to enhance the tracking of
the conveyor belt. We can even provide pulleys with “V” grooves machined into the center of the pulley
rim to accommodate conveyor belts equipped with “centering /tracking” v-belts. The “Specification
Form” in this catalog allows you to fully describe your desired rim profile.

End Discs
The end discs (end plates) on Bryant pulleys are manufactured from the same materials that are utilized
for the pulley rims. They are matched to the pulley shell inside diameter (ID) for a tight fit and accurate
concentricity. Holes to accommodate the shaft are machined concentric with the outside diameter.
The end discs are then welded (or chemically bonded in the case of PVC material) to the pulley shell.
Shafting
Bryant pulley shafting is TG&P (turned, ground and polished) material, in either mild steel, 304 stainless

disc sub-assembly. The total pulley assembly is then machined “all over” to insure concentricity along the shaft centerline. If required, shaft keyseats are machined in a final operation.

Lagging
Customers often specify pulley lagging to enhance the tractive forces between the conveyor belt and the
conveyor pulley. Bryant Products offers a variety of lagging types, including rubber and urethane.
These materials are available in a variety of compounds and durometers (hardnesses).
