RESPONDING TO GOD’S WORD
First Scripture Reading – Psalm 32 (Read responsively from pew Bible, p. 587)
* Hymn 288, I Sing the Mighty Power of God
Prayer of Confession in Response to God’s Grace
Lord God, you know the ways of good and evil. You know the things that tempt
us and the things that give us life. You know our nakedness, and you know our
sin. We confess that we have disobeyed your word, denying your providence
and care and relying on our own cleverness. We have allowed ourselves to be
formed by the world, rather than formed by your Word. Have mercy on us, we
pray: cover us with your grace, feed us with the bread of life, and re-create us in
your image; through Jesus Christ our Savior. Amen.
Response (See insert) – Trisagion
*Passing of the Peace:
Leader: The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
People: And also with you.
Presentation of Offerings (If you haven’t already, please pass the Friendship pads.)
Offertory Anthem
Chancel Choir
Be Ye Glad arranged by Bruce Greer
In these days of confused situations, in these nights of a restless remorse;
When the heart and the soul of a nation lay wounded and cold as a corpse.
From the grave of the innocent Adam comes a song bringing joy to the sad;
O your cry has been heard and the ransom has been paid up in full, be ye glad.
O be ye glad, O be ye glad. Ev'ry debt that you ever had has been paid up in full
by the grace of the Lord. Be ye glad, be ye glad, be ye glad.
Now from your dungeon a rumor is stirring, you have heard it again and again;
O but this time the cell keys are turning and outside there are faces of friends.
And tho' your body lay weary from wasting, and your eyes show the sorrow they've had;
O the love that your heart is now tasting has opened the gate, be ye glad.
So be like lights on the rim of the water, giving hope in a storm of the night;
Be a refuge amidst the slaughter of these fugitives in their flight!
For you are timeless and part of a puzzle, You are winsome and young as a lad;
And there is no disease or no struggle that can pull you from God, be ye glad.
*Doxology, Hymn 592
*Prayer of Dedication

Announcements
Lent has begun and a letter from the florist says it is time to order the lilies, tulips and
daffodils for our Easter worship service. The cost is the same as last year: $10.50.
Starting next Sunday, March 12th the order form will be in the bulletin.
Friday Morning Bible Study will begin again on March 24th from 10 to 11am in the
Craft Room of Shenango on the Green. It will continue until Memorial Day. Roman
Garrison will lead the discussion and asks that you please read Genesis 30 and 31 and
bring three questions you might have related to those chapters.
The Grief Support Group meeting on Monday evenings will continue on an on-going
basis. The group meets in the Lillian Martin Room from 6-8pm. Karen Lewis from
Hospice of the Valley is the facilitator. If you have questions or are interested, please
contact Linda McGrath, [email protected] or call 724-946-9006.
The Young Adult Class is hosting a 6-week study, When Helping Hurts, using DVD
and discussion to consider the complex topic of poverty. "Poverty is much
more than simply a lack of material resources, and it takes much more
than donations and handouts to solve it. When Helping Hurts provides
proven strategies for effective poverty alleviation, catalyzing the idea that
sustainable change comes not from the outside in, but from the inside out."
Wayne & Peggy Gordon are facilitating the study. Newcomers of all ages
are always welcome!
NWPC Preschool Registration for 2017-2018: The Preschool is still currently
enrolling children who will turn 3 by 9/1/2017 for the 3-4 year old class which meets
from 9:00-11:30am on Tuesday & Thursday. Application packets containing more
information are available in the literature racks throughout the church or at
www.nwpresby.org under the preschool tab. If you have any questions, please contact
the Director Jill Mook Wilson at 724-699-2775 or [email protected].
Prayer Partners needed for members of the 25th Annual Dominican Republic
Mission Team. The team departs on March 11th and returns on March 19th. In addition
to various ministries that happen all week long the team will be joined on the final
weekend by folks who have served previous years for an anniversary reunion. Your
prayers are requested for safety in travel and serving, for good health of all, for
Dominican friends and team members alike that God will be seen at work so all would be
drawn closer to Him. If you are able to pray daily for a member of the team, please
contact Linda McGrath, [email protected] / 724-730-3813, or tear-off slip below:

Worship Notes
If you are a guest today we pray that God will bless you through your presence here.
Please sign the pew pad including contact information so we may welcome you.
Assistance for worship is available including large print bulletins and hymnals. We
also have personal audio receivers that provide sound amplification.
Childcare: The Nursery for babies and toddlers (infants-age 2) is located through the side
doors of the sanctuary to the left of the pulpit area. “Thanks” to Marilyn Reeher for
staffing our Nursery and to Meridee Bair for assisting her today. Children’s Church is
a gathering where children engage a Bible story in a creative and developmentally focused
way. There are two groups: the preschool and Kindergarten students go to the NWPC
Preschool Room, #216; students in 1st through 3rd grades are in the Children’s Church
Room, #213. Teachers this week are Joel and Jill Postema.
Welcoming you at the main entrance is the Moore family. Jonathan and Sarina Moore
joined NWPC in 2016. They have three boys, Henry (14), Elliott (10), and Judson (6).
The Moores moved to New Wilmington in 2015 from Grand Rapids, Michigan. Sarina is a
professor of English at Grove City College. Jonathan worked as a trial attorney for several
years and is now seeking to transition to serving in education, as well. The Moores are
grateful for the opportunity to express God’s welcoming love to each of you.
The flowers are given in celebration and memory of John Peterson’s life and all the lives
he touched with his smile, twinkling eyes, and witty sense of humor by the Arblaster
family.
Our thanks to Rev. Jim Mohr, Westminster College Chaplain and friend of this
congregation, for sharing God’s word with our children and for commissioning our 2017
Dominican Republic Mission Team members.
We are very pleased to have our middle school students serve as acolytes in worship.
This morning Afton Camlin and Kat Karson are lighting the candles.
The Mission Committee has initiated something new today. In an effort to keep our
congregation informed about our activity in missions at home and abroad, we are
displaying the flags of the countries where we are actively involved in missional
support. These flags have been on display in the Ligo Room all year. Each month we
will highlight a new flag along with information regarding the mission(s) in that
country. In the month of March we are concentrating on the Dominican Republic as
we send out another mission team to Sabaneta de Yásica. This year we celebrate 25
years of medical, building, and educational partnership with the congregations in
and around Sabaneta de Yásica. We ask that our congregation keep the team
members in their prayers to provide a safe, effective, and productive mission trip!
