Summer 2017 Class Descriptions Shake, Rattle, & Roll (Ages 12-18 months) This is the perfect class for the littlest dancers to be introduced to dance and movement. Shake, Rattle, and Rollers is a mommy & me class where your little one can explore and grow in a loving environment with you there to guide them along the way. Your little dancer will learn basic dance and creative movement steps with the use of props, including teddy bears, shakers, and scarves. Baby Ballerina (Ages 18-24 months) This is a mommy & me class, where your little one will be introduced to music, movement, and dance with you there to guide them along the way. Little dancers will explore directional concepts, body awareness, and spatial relations using a variety of props. This is a great class for little movers who are ready to be creative and use their imaginations. Twinkle Toes Two (Ages 2 Years) The perfect introductory dance class for little ones with lots of energy and creativity. Your little one will move and groove in an exciting, positive environment, while learning basic ballet and creative movement steps. Props such as Teddy Bears, hula hoops, and scarves are used to allow dancers to twinkle with self discovery and imagination! Tiny Tots Tumblers (Ages 2-3 Years) Does your Tiny Tot like to move and stretch? If so, tiny tots tumblers is a great place for them! Your tiny tot will learn flexibility, control, and movement in an engaging and supportive way. While using mats, balance steps, and their imaginations tots will learn basic tumbling and gymnastics skills. Exploring muscle control and strength training has never been more fun! Twirling Tutus (Ages 3-4 Years) Watch your little ballerina twirl and shine in a twinkle twirling tutus class! Your twirling Ballerina will learn basic ballet steps and terminology with the use of engaging music and props (including butterfly wings, scarves, and princess wands). The purpose of this class is to introduce young ballerinas to dance and inspire movement and creativity in a positive encouraging environment. Competition Prep (Ages 3-5 years) Does your little dancer love to perform and dance in front of an audience? Ever considered getting them more serious in their dance classes and abilities? Every year Ms. Lisa’s Dance gathers a group of young dancers to join our Applause competition team. This competition prep class is a great way for dancers to learn technique and to enhance their performance abilities, getting them ready to join Ms. Lisa’s competition team in the Fall. This is a class structured class that is open to 3 to 5 years old by invitation only. Ballet & Tap (Ages 4-5 years) This Ballet & Tap class is great for young dancers who enjoy more than one style of dance. Your little dancer will learn rhythm, counting, posture, and patterning; while age appropriate music and props engage their bodies and imaginations. Basic Ballet & Tap steps and terminology will be taught to further enhance your young dancer’s abilities and creativity. Pre-Ballet (Ages 4-5 years) Is your young ballerina ready for a more structured ballet class? Preballet is a great introduction to Ballet, where proper body alignment and arm/foot placements is developed. Dancers will participate in a structured class, including a warm up at the barre, center floor work, and across the floor movements. Some props may be incorporated to engage young ballerinas as they grow and enhance their dance abilities. Tumble & Twirl (Ages 4-5 years) Tumble & Twirl is an energetic class where dancers can twirl in their tutus while stretching and using muscle control. In this class your young dancer will learn basic ballet steps and terminology, as well as flexibility and gymnastics skills. Both engaging props (scarves, butterfly wings, etc.) and tumbling mats will be used to allow dancers to explore two different styles of dance. Ballet & Tap (Ages 5-9 years) This Ballet & Tap class is great for beginner dancers who want to explore more than one style of dance. This is a structured class where your dancer will learn both technique and tap rhythm. Proper body alignment and placement is taught, as dancers participate in a warm up time at the barre, center floor work, and across the floor movements. Ballet I (Ages 6-10 years) This is a great class for children who have been dancing for a few years or for those who have a newly developed interest in Ballet. Each class will begin with barre work to fine tune body placement and alignment. Technique is further developed through center floor combinations and across the floor exercises. Jazz (Ages 6-10) Jazz dancing is energetic and fun! This class is great for new dancers who are ready to move and groove and for experienced dancers who want to fine tune their jazz abilities. This class explodes with energy using a variety of Broadway music and Hip Hop tunes. A warm up, progressions across the floor, jazz technique and combinations are all part of this upbeat class. Jazz steps include chaines, piques, and grand jetes. These skills progressively increase in difficulty depending on each student’s level in the class. Acro & Tumbling (Ages 6-10,11-16) In this class dancers will learn and develop gymnastics and acro technique. With a teacher’s guidance dancers will learn balance, control, flexibility, and discipline. Each dancer will grow and stretch individually according to their experience and dance ability. Contemporary/Lyrical (6-10,11-16) This is a structured class where dancers will learn dance technique while using self expression through movement. This class includes intricate floor work and movement across the floor. Ballet II (Ages 7-11 years) This class is for dancers who have learned the basic skills of ballet and have completed Ballet 1 or the equivalent. Class begins with barre focusing on body alignment, balance, and strength. Class continues with center work, which consist of the learning body positions and center movement. Across the floor work will enhance the dancers sense of coordination and directional awareness. Stretch & Conditioning (11-16 years) Want to stay in shape over the summer? This stretch & conditioning class will keep dancers stretched and moving during the summer break. Turns/Leaps/Technique (11-16 years) This class is for the experienced dancer who wants to further develop their dance technique and abilities. This class consist of a warm up, center floor transitions, and across the floor; proper body placement and spotting are mastered in this class. Ballet III/Pointe (12-17 years) This is a structured ballet class for the experienced dancer. Each class will begin with barre to fine tune body placement and alignment. Ballet technique is furthered through center combinations and across the floor exercises.
