Help CREATE to make a difference Cessnock West Public School organised a super fun Paint It Purple fundraising event for the whole school (K-6). Everyone got to come to school dressed in purple, they had a purple morning tea with cupcakes, biscuits, jellies and purple lolly bags. There were also fun activities like making purple glitter calming bottles, creating finger knitting crafts and of course purple nail painting. There was also a special invitation only event for the children with a care experience, where they each received a CREATE goody bag and were made to feel super special. The fundraising event was very successful raising over $500 from the students donating a gold coin for the purple goodies that were available on the day. Every child in the school then painted their hands purple and used their handprints to make a “wall of support” for the children in out of home care. Help CREATE to make a difference! Paint it Purple! 7 Claudine Scalzi is our SA State Coordinator and has been with CREATE for 5 years! We are super thankful for her work at CREATE and for children and young people in South Australia . We caught up with her to find out her most memorable moments working here. What’s the best part of working at CREATE? The best part about working at CREATE are the supportive people I work with, and working with young people that inspire me each day. What has been your best memory? There have been so many memories but the one that stands out is our last National ‘Youth 4 Change’ conference in Brisbane. I loved being involved in the song writing workshop with CREATE young people. It was so amazing to see young people coming together, stepping out of their comfort zones and making new connections. WOW! I came away so inspired and incredibly proud of the young people and the work we do as an organisation. What’s a great piece of advice you can give young people starting at clubCREATE? My advice would be to get involved with as much as you can, you never know what other door will open up for you. You also get to come along and hang out with other young people and the CREATE crew. 8 Paint it Purple! Help CREATE to make a difference! Charlie and the War against the Grannies by Alan Brough Meet Charlie Ian Duncan. This is the history of his war with the grannies – which he wrote because he needs everyone to know that he really didn’t mean to blow up Mrs Cyclopolos, he just wanted a paper round. This is the war he waged alongside his friends Hils, Rashid, Peter the Iraqi, Warren and his magical bike TwelveSpeed, and those crazy people he meets underground. At first Charlie and his friends weren’t sure if they should have gone to war against the grannies, but then they discovered that they could pinch bricks in half and turn hankies into deadly throwing weapons. If you think about it, the grannies really shouldn’t have sprayed Charlie in the face with rooster brand chilli sauce. Help CREATE to make a difference! Just mix, press it in, ice it and you’re done! Ingredients Icing 1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk 2 cup icing mixture 125g unsalted butter (melted) (sifted) 250g packet of biscuits (crushed) 2 passionfruit pulp. (You can 1 tsp lemon zest (grated skin use fresh pulp or from a can) of the lemon) 15g unsalted butter (softened) 1 cup shredded coconut Method: 1.Stir the condensed milk and melted butter in a medium bowl until mixed together well. In a separate large bowl, use a big wooden spoon to mix the crushed biscuits, lemon zest and coconut. Carefully pour in the butter and condensed milk, and stir well until everything is mixed together. 2.Line a 28x18cm tin (or close enough) with baking paper, and then use your hands to press the mixture into the tin. Transfer into the fridge to chill for 1 hour. 3.To make the passionfruit icing, use a wooden spoon to mix the icing sugar, passion fruit and butter in a medium bowl. Mix well until smooth and creamy. Pour the icing over the chilled slice and return to the fridge for another 30 minutes. 4.While you wait for the slice to set, lick any icing that is left on the spoon! So yummy! Once set, cut the slice into squares. Thanks to www.kidspot.com.au for this awesome idea! We would LOVE to see some photos of your recipe creations!
