BLACK HISTORY MONTH EXHIBITION
Re-Invention by Winston Harris
By combining printmaking techniques,
digital manipulation, hand-colored
processes and recycled past artwork,
Winston Harris seeks to produce images
that provoke and promote self-awareness
and spiritual enlightenment. He invites
the viewer to consider a variety of
themes: how American Jazz might
look as visual sound; the unification
of different ethnicities; celebrations of
commemorative events in American
history, especially significant to African
American history and culture; and the
harmony between nature and spirituality.
In Re-Invention, Harris hopes to
promote, motivate, inspire, and educate
participants with unique opportunities
from both an academic and professional
direction.

Messages of Hope
The concept of hope is the main theme in the popular picture-book biography,
Barack Obama: Son of Promise, Child of Hope, which was written by Nikki
Grimes and published prior to President Obama’s 2008 election. Several years
have passed since the book was written and a lot has happened in the world.
What words of motivation would you share with our President to encourage
him “not to give up hope?” During the month of February, messages of hope
will be collected and displayed in the community center’s lobby, and then
mailed to the White House in March.
