Advisory Entry Level Requirements
All assessment is now through external examination
at the end of the course and teaching will be towards
this. There are two examination papers. Each is
equally weighted, and worth 50% of the overall
marks (80 marks per paper). 1¾ hours is the time
allowed for each paper.
Those who are analytical, imaginative and enjoy
exploring new concepts. Students that have secure
literacy skills, or who are prepared to work towards
securing those skills.
There will be a new 1 – 9 grading scale for this
GCSE, 9 being the top grade.

We analyse and produce a range of texts, starting form learning basic textual analysis
and storyboarding skills, before learning about advertising techniques in print and
moving image to analyse and design and original campaign. The Practical Production
allows students to plan, research and produce a complete project before reviewing and
evaluating their success. The examination also requires analysing of existing media
and planning, design and evaluation of an original text.

Success will come to those who can view media products critically and be prepared for
analysing these in detail. In addition, those that are prepared to learn new technical
skills, such as video and still image editing, still and video camerawork. Creative

Brief outline of subject
The Level 2 Rockschool Certificate in Music has a
vocational focus. The course is a unique alternative
to GCSE’s and BTEC’s. It is a nationally accredited
course equivalent to 1 GCSE award. The certificate is
a performance-only course, there is no composition
involved. Pupils will be expected to rehearse and
perform a variety of solo performances, on an
instrument of their own choice or by singing. They
will document and show progress being made
through a dedicated practice schedule. Alongside the
externally marked core unit, set by the exam board,
pupils will complete 2 further units of work which
continue to focus on solo instrumental study on their
instrument of choice.

subject
To be successful, you must be a confident performer.
You must enjoy playing a musical instrument or
singing and have a zest for learning new music. You
must be willing to put in time outside of lessons to
rehearse for performances, whether live or recorded
in the studio.

MySkills is a learning suite designed to equip
students with the essential life skills needed for
adulthood. Through a variety of practical
qualifications, students can gain the skills required to

Students have one practical lessons per fortnight in
which they develop performance, knowledge and
understanding in a range of activities - limited to:

Students will study the work of photographers who
work in different ways. There will be opportunities to
photograph on location and in the studio. Students
will learn digital manipulation and the many ways
that their work can develop, including the moving
image.
Students who are self motivated and want to develop
their own ideas in a creative way are usually most
successful in this subject.
Although the school has some equipment, students
are expected to have at least a basic camera of their
own.
Students interested in a career in digital media or
journalism would benefit from this subject.
Other careers include illustration, film, product
design, graphics, video games, architecture, fine art,
media, fashion, textiles, glassmaking, restoration,
photography

sections
a. Beliefs and practices of two religions –

Students will learn to use the design process from
the design brief, researching possible solutions &
being creative in their ideas. Students learn a range
of techniques which allow them to develop their ideas
from drawings through to digital 3D models and
physical models. They then learn a range of

This subject encourages personal development
through practical participation and performance in a
range of sporting activities. Students are then
expected to explain and analyse their findings
through coursework, usually carried out on
computers. The award has been designed for those
who may wish to explore a vocational route
throughout Key Stage 4.
Students who are more coursework minded and like
independent research will be well suited to the
Cambridge National course.
The course gives learners the possibility to enter
employment in the sport and active leisure sector or
to progress to other vocational qualifications such as
Btec Level 3, Cambridge Technicals in Sport Studies
and Sport Exercise Science or on to AS or A level P E.

techniques. They learn how fashion designers get
ideas and how to turn that idea into a finished piece.
They learn how to present design ideas in the form of
