Dear Commi ttee Members,
As a Victori an regi stered vot er in the Federal Electora t e of Calwell, I wis h to st rongly
object to t he proposed splitting of the suburb of Craigieburn via the main road of
Craigieburn (Craigie burn Road Wes t) into two separate Fede ra l Electorate s be ing
Calwell and McEwen .
I wish to point o ut that Craigieburn Is one to wn , one comm unity and th at it should
not be di vided by electoral boundarie s. This will split our comm unity int o t wo .
Key reasons for this objection include :

Craigieburn is a growi ng urbanised commun ity and to ensure we receive
adequate infrast ructure that grows as the commun ity doe s, we need one
voice represent in g our views.
Craigieburn is a hi storic ally significa nt to wn that has had recent com munity
work to brid ge old er Craigieburn w ith newer areas of th is growing to wn . Your
proposed di vision tak es a sledgehammer t o th e wo rk of our community
volunteers w orki ng to unite our t own.
Craigieburn is on e suburb, one commun ity, and dividin g it would be very
detrim ent al to our neighbourhood, our sense of pride and ou r com munity
spirit .
Craigieburn is a growi ng urbanised comm unity and i ncluding part of it in th e
predom inan tly rural electorate of M cEwen would re sult in M cew en having
two extrem ely different com munit ies, wi t h differing needs, wit hin one single
elect orat e (urbanised and rura l).
I ask th at t he commi ssion return t o its original decision published on t he so" of July
2010 t o pla ce the ent ire subur b of Craigie burn into t he new Federa l Vict orian
Electorate of Bur ke w it h ot her geographically and demographi cally similar suburbs of
Roxburgh Park, Sunbury, and Sout h Morang. Fail ing th at, I ask th at th e ent ire suburb
of Craigieburn of be ret urn ed t o the electorate of Calwell.
