2015 SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY ACTIVITIES St. Bernard Primary School-Zvimba St. Bernard’s Primary School was established in 1963 at Rothwell Farm which is located in a farming community in Makwiro, Zvimba. The school falls under the care of Zimbabwe Catholic Bishops Conference (ZCBC) of Harare. The school has a total enrolment of 289 pupils. Stanbic Bank donated a structure which is now serving as the school’s Early Childhood Development Classroom, ICT Room and an Administration block. The organization had previously experienced a theft and Stanbic donated the safe to keep their valuables secured. St Albert’s Mission Hospital-Centenary St. Albert's Mission Hospital is the only hospital in Centenary district and serves a population of 120,000 people, most of whom are subsistence farmers. The hospital was established in 1964. Patients come from the surrounding villages on the escarpment, the arid Zambezi Valley and neighbouring Mozambique. Some of the patients are referred to the hospital from the 12 clinics in the district. The hospital has been facing an increasing number of Malaria cases which has caused a subsequent rise in their admissions further straining its operations. Stanbic donated Malaria repellent kits to the hospital. The Association was formed by a group of cancer survivors and volunteers in a bid to support each other to fight the disease. Stanbic Bank extended a helping hand to CAZ in the fight against cancer. Stanbic donated funds to assist disadvantaged patients suffering from the disease who require chemotherapy drugs. A patient going through chemotherapy treatment requires eight cycles of chemotherapy. Cancer is a devastating disease and patients face financial constraints to go through the chemotherapy treatment. ALCOZ’s vision is to establish a stigma free and self-reliant albino society which offers capacity building, psychosocial support which includes counselling to the affected people living with albinism. Stanbic donated sunscreen lotions, sunscreen lip balms, antiseptic liquid washes and soaps to the Albino Charity Organisation of Zimbabwe (ALCOZ) in keeping with its core value of growing its people and giving back to the community in which it operates. Stanbic built an abulition block for the Gwizo family through DOCAS. The Gwizo family members suffer from a deadly genetic condition known as Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, which affects only male children. They required an abulition facility with a bath tub and toilet for the affected children. Picture Caption: Gwizo family standing next to toilet Stragglers Junior Cricket Week Stanbic sponsored another yearly edition of Stragglers Junior Cricket week in the month of August. The cricket week is organised for all enthusiastic young cricketers between the ages of 9 and 12. The cricket week’s aim provides coaching and builds teamwork among the junior cricketers. Grade 4 and 5 cricketers play in the morning and the grade 6 and 7s in the afternoon. The players are placed into teams named after cricketing countries – Zimbabwe, West Indies, India, England, Australia, and Sri Lanka to name a few. Each country challenges a different country every day during the week in limited over matches. All cricketers are rotated and every player has a chance to bat and bowl. Certificates are awarded to high achieving cricketers. Every year, teams from development areas are included on a rotational basis to give as many children as possible an opportunity to play during the holidays and have some fine tuning of their skills through coaching. The development sides for this year were Mabvuku, Glen View, Highfield, Chitungwiza, Shamva and Bindura. Tennis Association of Zimbabwe (TAZ) Stanbic assisted with repair and resurfacing of the Tennis courts at Harare Sports club used by Tennis Association of Zimbabwe (TAZ). TAZ‘s extensive development programs require the tennis courts to be refurbishment to meet international standards in order for them to host international games. Tennis Zimbabwe has existing development programmes in the high density areas where it works through the schools. Stanbic funded the refurbishment of one of the tennis quotes. In order to support academic excellence, Stanbic continues to donate towards schools and universities in the form of book prizes, trophies and educational scholarships. In 2015 we sponsored: Student’s fees and upkeep under the Makomborero Zimbabwe Scholarship program. $5000 towards school fees assistance for selected Africa University students Full scholarship for a University of Zimbabwe student. Revolving trophies and book prizes for schools including Zimbabwe School of Mines Graduation, Domboramwari High School, Gonye Primary School, Mother Patrick Convent School, Our Lady of Sorrows Primary School, Nyatsime College, Midlands Christian School, and Goldridge College among other schools. Matobo Conservation Society The Matobo Hills cultural landscape is located southwest of Bulawayo, where much of the area is now protected within the Rhodes Matopos National Park. It is recognised as one of the World’s Heritage Sites. Stanbic Bank has been sponsoring the three day Matobo Hills World Heritage Challenge since its inception five years ago. The race promotes the Matobo Hills, its World Heritage status, supports the Matopo National park and communities along the cycle route and distribution of conservation educational material. The riders have historically come from Harare, Bulawayo, RSA and Botswana.
