DearFellowASVCPMembers,
MovingintothePresidentroleprovidesbothan
enormouspersonalchallengetomeaswellasa
fantasticprivilege.Servinghistoricallyonthe
DevelopmentCommittee(nowknownasSharetheFuture)andthe
RegulatoryAffairsCommitteeofASVCP,aswellaswiththeFocused
ClinicalPathologySessionsfromtheACVPsidehaveallhelpedmeto
understandhowtheSocietyandtheCollegeworktogetherforthebenefitof
clinicalpathologists.Iknowthatitwillbehighlyrewardingtoserveour
SocietyinthecapacityofPresidentoverthenextyear.
Ontheotherside,IcanonlyhopethatIhavelearnedenoughfrommyfellow
EBmemberstobeproductiveintherole.IknowthattheEB,withthe
incredibleadditionsofKurtZimmermanasPresident-Elect,SarahBeattyas
Treasurer,andSharonDialasEBmember,willworktogetherasa
seamlessteamtomaintaintheenergyandcommitmentofthisboard.Ithas
beensuchapositiveexperienceworkingasPresident-ElectwithShelley
Burton.Itisn’tjusttheCanadiantiesthathavebeenadrawbutalsothe
thoroughandsteadymannerinwhichsheleads.WithherguidanceasPast
President,Ipledgetoprovideasimilarhighleveloffunction.Despitebeing
inagreatpositionforthecomingyear,thecalmleadershipofJeff
McCartney,financialsavvyofJenJohnsandboundlessenergyandidea
generationofTracyStokolwillallbehighlymissedastheyretirefromthe
board.
InlightofShelley’sStateoftheSocietymessage,Iwouldliketoshare
someofthethingsthatourSocietywillbebuildinguponinthecomingyear.
TheWebOutreachCommitteeandasubcommitteeledbyLottiHollinger
havepositioneduswelltomoveforwardonanexcitingnewwebsitedesign.
Thesubstantialeffortsofthisgrouptodatearehighlyappreciated.TheEB
anticipatesthatthewebredesignwillbringusuptospeedintheworldof
highlyfunctionalandinteractivewebsites.
ThecollaborationwiththeEuropeanSocietyforVeterinaryClinical
Pathology(ESVCP)ontheASVCP/ESVCPOnlineRoundscoordinatedby
SharonDialisanexampleofglobalthinkingandcollaborationwithour
partnersworldwide.TheEBwillcontinuetoevaluateopportunitiesforglobal
interactionswithourcounterpartsaroundtheworld(e.g.,ESVCPandthe
InternationalSocietyforAnimalClinicalPathology)thatwillbenefitour
members.
Whilesomeoftheongoingeffortsofthesocietyhavenecessitatedan
increaseinmembershipfees,theASVCPiscommittedtoplacingan
increasedemphasisonfundraisingandcorporatesponsorship.TheShare
theFutureCommitteeisrefocusingeffortstodrivethisinitiative.Weallhave
ownershipinthefutureofourSociety,sooneofthefirstthingsIplantodo
ismakeatax-deductibledonationtoASVCP.
Forthosewhodon’tknowmewell,thereisa"GettoKnowyourEB
Member"pieceinthisnewsblastaboutme.Pleasefeelfreetoreachout

updateonourSociety.ItismyopinionthattheASVCP
isinexcellentshape!Wehadaterrificannualmeeting
alongwiththeACVPintheinterestingcityofNew
Orleans.Itwasachancetohearfreshideasandseetreasuredcolleagues
andfriends.OntheExecutiveBoard,wesaidafondfarewellandthankyou
toTracyStokol,JenniferJohns,andJeffMcCartney.OurSocietyisso
muchstrongerfortheirenthusiasticinputoverthelast3-5years!We
welcomedPresident-ElectKurtZimmerman,TreasurerSarahBeatty,and
MemberSharonDialwhowillservetheSocietywellundertheable
leadershipofLindsayTomlinson,ournewPresident.
Ourcommitteescontinuetobeveryactive,andthisenthusiasticvolunteer
workgreatlystrengthenstheASVCP.TheWebOutreachCommittee,
chairedbyJenOwen,hadabusyyear.AWebRedesignSubcommittee
chairedbyLottiHollingerthoughtfullyconsideredhowanewwebsitecan
servemembersbetter.Weareexcitedtoseethisworkcometofruitionin
2017.AnotherWebOutreachSubcommitteechairedbyGwenLevine
enthusiasticallyexploredwaystoengagetraineesatourannualmeeting,
andthiswaswonderfullyapparentinNewOrleans!
TheRegulatoryAffairsCommittee(RAC)wasasproductiveasever,
includingthefinalizationofthreemanuscriptsandtheawardingofindustry
externshipstodeservingtrainees.WesaidthankyouandfarewelltoLila
RamaiahforguidingRACsowellaschairandwelcomedAdamAulbachas
incomingchair.WealsothankedandsaidfarewelltoChuckWiedmeyeras
hefinishedhistermastheSharetheFutureCommitteechairand
welcomedLauraCregarastheincomingchair.Asalways,Lynne
ShanahanandherVeterinaryLaboratoryProfessionalsCommittee
producedawonderfulcontinuingeducationsessionandworkedhardto
supporttheSocietyallyear.
TheQualityAssurance&LaboratoryStandards(QALS)Committeechaired
byMelindaCamusalsowasveryactive;itdevelopedamembersurveyand
anSOPforwritingguidelinedocuments,amongothergoodwork.Inaddition
tootheractivitiessuchasselectingadeservingEducatorAwardrecipient,
theEducationCommitteechairedbyCarolynGrimesorganizedbotha
wonderfulEducationForumandPre-MeetingWorkshop.
Finally,theenthusiasmandenergeticworkofLauraSnyder’sProgram
CommitteeoverallproducedatrulygreatNewOrleansmeeting!
TheSocietymovedforwardonmanyaspectsin2016.Thankstotheworkof
ASVCPSecretaryMarkJohnsonandtheablehelpofTheReesGroup,our
newsletterchangedfromadownloadablePDFtothefasterweb-blastformat
youarenowreading!OurOnlineRounds,organizedbySharonDialandnow
co-supportedbytheESVCP,isverypopularwithincreasingattendance
worldwide.Althoughcostswerehigherinourlastfiscalyeardueto
aspectssuchasour50thAnniversarypartyinMinneapolis,theSociety
remainsinsolidfinancialshape,withtheExecutiveBoardexploringwaysto
controlcostsandincreaserevenuegoingforward.Onthatnote,please
considerapersonalcontributiontoSharetheFuture!
ItwillbemypleasuretocontinuetoserveourSocietyontheExecutive
Board.ThisexperiencehastaughtmethattheASVCPessentiallyrunson
theenergy,time,andfreshideasofourmanywonderfulmemberswho

NCState,Ihavehadstrongmentorshipinbothanatomicandclinical
pathology.Theseinfluencestaughtmetothinkmoreholisticallyandto
pursuedualboardcertification.Thishasbeenverybeneficialtomebutalso
agreatsourceofconsternation.Duringphasesofcompanyevolutionthat
focusoncategoricalassignments,Isometimesfeelasthoughtheywould
liketoplacealimbortwoofmeindifferentpartsoftheorganization.Asa
