The Preps are learning how to say hello (bonjour), goodbye (au revoir), and my name is (je m’appelle). They are also learning the numbers 1 – 10. Some of the Year 1’s remember the numbers from last year and so they are helping everyone else in the class. In the Year 2/3/4 class, we have been playing some games as well as revising our vocabulary. This year the 5/6 class have French twice a week. They have been practising the numbers from 1 – 20 and have played French silent ball and ‘pierre, papier, ciseaux’ to help learn them. They are watching some short videos as well to help learn new words and to see French speaking places around the world. Both the students in the 2/3/4 class and 5/6 class have enjoyed playing the game ‘concombre’. Music Prep/1 have been singing together and clapping rhythms. We have been getting to know each other and playing musical statues. The students are very fortunate to have a lot of musical instruments to play and create their own songs. So far they have played keyboards, guitar and percussion. The triangle has been very popular. The 2/3/4 class have been clapping rhythms and playing drop freeze. They have started instrumental rotations, where the students can play keyboards, guitar, ukulele, glockenspiel and percussion. Most students have done a great job at sharing the instruments between each other. Benji, Tylah and Sandra-Dee helped in class last week by offering to share their instruments with the other students. The 2/3/4 class will also be learning about Australian music this term. (cont’d page 2) PAGE 2 French/Music News cont’d This term the 5/6 Music lesson will be focussed on rhythm. Last week the students composed and performed their own musical ‘door knocks’. We will also learn about ostinato – which is a repeated rhythm or melody – this term. I am looking forward to doing the cup song later in the term, especially as some of the girls showed me last week they already know it. For instrumental music the students have all chosen an instrument that they will study for the whole term. Each group will have tuition on their instrument once a fortnight. They will have class time to practice once a week. The groups are: Drums and Percussion: Nik, Noah, Max D, Daniel, Lachlan, James, Fynn Keyboard: Jye, Sascha, Levi, Josh, Phoenix, Aiden, Max W Ukulele: Lilly, Pippa, Makayla, Zoe, Sahara, Ruby M Recorder: Mia, Lawson, Ruby S, O’Hara We are also starting choir rehearsals this week. The choir is open to all students in the 5/6 class who auditioned in Week 2. The students were very brave to sing in front of me either on their own or with a partner for support. It can feel scary to sing in front of someone, especially someone you don’t know very well, and they French basics bonjour hello Comment tu t’appelles? What is your name? Je m’appelle… My name is… enchante nice to meet you Ça va? How are you? Ça va bien. I’m good. merci thank you all did a great job. The students have chosen to sing ‘Never Forget You’ by Zara Larsson. Choir: Sascha, Noah, Josh, Lawson, O’Hara, Mikayla, Pippa, Daniel, Levi, Max D, Fynn, Zoe, Ruby S. Merci beaucoup Thank you for having me at your school. I am enjoying working with you all. It has been a pleasure meeting many of you over the past 4 weeks. If you have any questions about the French or Music programs for this year, or any other concerns or questions, please let me know and I will do my best to help. We are fortunate to have Harmony helping us with Prep/1 French and Instrumental, and 5/6 Instrumental. She has already been a fantastic help. As well as Music and French, I am also taking the 5/6 class for sustainable practices on Thursday and Friday afternoons. I am enjoying learning about all the jobs. Last week Pippa and Lachlan showed me the chickens and Mikayla, Lawson and Noah explained how the compost works. Lucy Langham French/Music/Instrumental Teacher PAGE 3 GENERAL NEWS Thank you to those who attended the P&C last week. It was a great way to start the year towards it being another productive year. The AGM was called for March 22, 6pm in the Green Room. Hopefully see you all again then. On parade last Friday, Sascha, Pippa and Phoenix demonstrated how we should all enact our school values: “Understanding, Cooperation and Initiative” through some entertaining skits. It was a great overall performance. Tomorrow a number of colleagues will be visiting to see what has been happening around our reading improvement agenda. They will be talking with staff and students about our focus. The intent of their visit is to provide an external viewpoint of how effective we are at improving outcomes, especially in reading. I look forward to hearing what they have to say, as too passing on their findings. Cheers, Trent CYCLE SKILLS DAY Noosa Council has been successful with a Queensland Government Community Road Safety Grant to fund a Cycle Skills program in Hinterland Schools. Permission Notes Recently, permission letters were sent out to all parents regarding their child/ren’s participation in activities that sometimes require a level of risk. For your child/ren to be a part of these activities, they require the parent to peruse the risk assessment documents and notify the office either by phone, email or letter. The pizzas were being attended to by Levi and Max D as they went in and came out of the woodfire oven. Thanks boys. The variety of the three flavours of pizzas was an amazing experience! The Year 5’s will be cooking again and yes, there will be pizzas again! Keith and Zeb make sure that we use lots of vegies and herbs from our gardens (pumpkin, basil, tomatoes, eggplant, capsicum, lettuce) as well as using up our bananas for the gelato. See you tomorrow, Catherine PAGE 6 Noosa District Swimming Trials Last Tuesday, I went to the Noosa District Swimming Trials which was held at the Noosa Aquatic Centre. I raced in 4 races; freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and a 100m medley. I didn’t do so well, but at least I tried my best. I had a great time there with Pippa. There were over 200 kids and 14 schools there. LAWSON On 14th February, Lawson and I went to swimming trials. I didn’t have the best of luck with diving….whenever I dived, my goggles fell off while I was swimming! I looked very strange…Well the good thing is that I made new friends and caught up with old friends. I didn’t come first or anything but I’m proud of myself for trying. PIPPA Thank you Lawson and Pippa for representing our school at the Noosa District Swimming Trials. We are very proud of you both.
