Water quality a concern in
Wakeboard park proposal

The proposed high-wire forest park nestled adjacent to Gear
Terrace homestead is looking like a
favourable and viable attraction to
Porirua City councillors.
But more study is needed for the
proposed Aotea Lagoon’s wakeboard
park - specially on water quality.
Earlier this month, during a
Porirua City Council city services
committee meeting, councillors were
presented with an update on the
Adrenalin Forest Park and Lagoon
Wakeboard Park proposal.
Both proposals were presented
to committee members earlier this
year.
The forest park, proposed by
Jean Caillabet, features a series of
multi-level aerial obstacle courses.
Participants negotiate a series of
rope bridges, swings and flying foxes
from platforms constructed in a tree
canopy. The platforms range from
two to 20 metres in the air.
The wakeboard park, proposed by
Titahi Bay resident Paul Marlow, in-
volves an electrical motor that drives
a pair of running cables around a
rectangle or a pentagon course; attached to the cables are carriers designed to pull skiing ropes.
Committee chair Nick Leggett
says both proposals are “pretty exciting” projects.
“But there is more work to be
done to determine the feasibility of the wakeboard cable way,” Cr
Leggett says. “The major concern at
the moment is the poor water quality
in Aotea Lagoon,” he says.

Boys and Girls
operations general manager Peter
Bailey says councillors are currently
working on an integral report, relating to the cableway, which will
be presented at the next committee
meeting.
But Mr Bailey admits it could take
three to four months before a solution can be found.
The Christchurch City Council
has granted Mr Caillabet approval to
erect a park in their city.
Porirua is awaiting Christchurch’s
lease conditions as part of the feasibility study.

finalist Every Second Friday. The book, written by Kiri Lightfoot
and illustrated by Ben Galbraith, tells the story of Margi and
Totty’s dad, whom they stay with every fortnight. Their dad is a
bits and bobs collector, and anything can happen. Lightfoot and
Galbraith dressed especially in pirate costume to mimic one of
the adventures in the book.
