Opening hours: 8:00 - 18:30 Monday to Friday Brockway Appointments: 01275 850600 Backwell Appointments: 01275 465100 Surgery News As a Research Practice we have to undertake a major study each year Text Messaging Service Reminder For 2012 we are taking part in a GP triage study. This involves GPs triaging all calls received during the day from Patients wishing to book a face to face on the day appointment. Routine pre bookable appointments will not be included in the study. We will have a 3 week run in before starting the study before going live. The study stops after recruiting 550 patients. The GPs are very excited to see if this new way of working benefits our patients and the care they receive. We would like to thank our patients with their support during this study. We are now able to send a text reminder for your pre booked appointments. This will help reduce the number of ‘Did not arrive’ (DNA) appointments to the GP and Nurse We will also be able to send you invites and reminders by mobile and land lines. Please ensure we have an up to date mobile number. If you do want to opt out, please inform our reception team. Local Patient Record Network The GP Care Local Patient Record Network (PRN) is a local initiative designed to benefit our patients. The PRN will allow members of the Out of Hours and A&E teams, with the expressed permission of the patient, access to your medical record held at the practice. This IS NOT the ‘summary patient care record’ Your medical record will only be available to local approved services providing urgent or emergency care, but this WILL ONLY be done once they have acquired your consent for them to view your record. Any and all access to your medical record is logged in our system at the practice and we are automatically notified that someone has done so, allowing us to monitor and ensure all reasons for access are legitimate. If you are happy for your record to be shared in this way then this would mean when you have to attend A&E or GP Out of Hours In Bristol, decisions on your treatment will be made based on your medical history whereas currently clinical staff are only able to treat you with limited knowledge about you. Clinical staff will be able to treat you more efficiently knowing what medication you are on, if you have any allergies and what blood tests you have had. Sharing medical records in this local way with your expressed permission, will lead to a much higher quality of care being received from services and can only benefit you as a patient. If you do not wish for your record to be available or shared with other service providers please complete an “Opt Out” form available in the practice. Please ask a receptionist. FREE NHS Health Checks Patients may have seen some recent local publicity about free NHS Health Checks The Practice will be inviting patients for NHS INSERT HEADLINE HERE Health Checks to people aged between 40 and 74 once every five years. OSTEOPATH We have a PRIVATE Osteopath service operating from Brockway Health Centre from July 2012 The check is to assess your risk of developing heart disease, stroke, kidney disease or diabetes. If there are any warning signs, then together we can do something about it. Sasha Wilson (Osteopath) will have clinics all day Monday and Friday. This health check is about prevention by taking early action; you can improve your health and prevent the onset of these conditions. There is good evidence to back this up. Clients using this service will need to check in at reception as the Osteopath work is independent of the practice. The check should take about 20–30 minutes and is based on straightforward questions and measurements such as age, sex, family history, height, weight and blood pressure. There will also be a simple blood test to measure your cholesterol level. BACKWELL IMPROVEMENTS We will soon be starting to update Backwell Surgery, as it is looking a bit tired. We hope to get a lot of the work done around clinics and would like to apologies in advance for any disruption. We hope Backwell Patients will like the changes. Following the check, you will receive free personalised advice about what you can do to stay healthy. Appointments will be available in the summer 2012 every other Saturday with our newly appointed HCA. There will also be some appointment availability weekdays in the evening. If you have any questions then please speak with Nikki or Michele (HCA’s) who will be happy help.
