MEDIA CONTACT: Anneliese DeDiemar Imagination Stage 301-280-1641 [email protected] For Immediate Release The Annual Children’s Ball: Rumble in the Jungle Returns Saturday, May 13 at 3:30 p.m. A Festive Event for Adults and Children Alike! BETHESDA, MD (April 13, 2017) The Annual Children’s Ball: Rumble in the Jungle, chaired by Sherrie Scott and Shannon Taylor, is Saturday, May 13, 2017! Now in its sixth year, the Children’s Ball promises to be a family-friendly and fun-filled evening, celebrating the power of theatre and the arts in the lives of children. The event will include a performance of The Jungle Book, rooms full of interactive activities, a family-oriented auction, and a celebratory buffet reception. The Annual Children’s Ball: Rumble in the Jungle takes place at Imagination Stage on Saturday, May 13, at 3:30 p.m. Tickets are $100 for individuals and family packages start at $350. They may be purchased online at www.imaginationstage.org/support-us/special-events, or via phone at 301-280-1626. Sponsorships are also available starting at $1,000. Providing the theme for the event is Imagination Stage’s production of The Jungle Book. Directed by Janet Stanford and based on the story by Rudyard Kipling, this Greg Banks script explores Mowgli’s relationship with his jungle family, the environment, and his responsibility to both. Mowgli is a human child brought up in the jungles of India by a family of wolves. The embittered tiger Shere Kahn may be stalking him, but Mowgli is a quick learner. His friends, Baloo the goofy bear, and Bagheera, the savvy Jaguar, teach him how to gain the trust of the four-footed hunters, the birds, and the snakes so that he will never be friendless. He falls into a bad crowd of silly monkeys who lead him astray and play a mean trick on him. How will Mowgli escape from the deep, dark well? And, how will he save himself when Shere Kahn turns the wolf pack against him? Mowgli learns to respect his environment and the wisdom of the animals. And he realizes that, as a grown man, it’s his responsibility to protect them. “As a mother of three children ages 10-15, The Children's Ball is a gala for all of us!” says cochair Sherrie Scott. “I am so excited to co-chair Imagination Stage's Children's Ball this year, and support its excellent children's theater program. My family and I cannot wait to see The Jungle Book production and experience the many activities and adventures that await at The 2017 Annual Children's Ball.” The Children’s Ball will include silent auction items geared towards families and children, including behind-the-scenes opportunities at Imagination Stage, tickets for family-friendly activities, and other memorable family experiences. Each room at Imagination Stage will be a fun destination with events ranging from tasty treat decorating to interactive activities for all ages. All proceeds raised during the "Fund A Cause" portion of the evening will directly support our Learning Through Theatre Initiative, an innovative arts partnership between Imagination 1 Stage, MCPS, DCPS, and DC Public Charter Schools that offers live theatre for children who otherwise would not be exposed to the creative arts. Imagination Stage serves over 100,000 children and families each year. Proceeds from The Annual Children’s Ball go directly towards Imagination Stage’s professional theatre and arts education. Imagination Stage’s programs are informed by a core belief in making the arts inclusive and accessible to all children, regardless of their physical or cognitive ability, or their economic status.
