Leave No Trace To minimize your impact when riding horse and using pack stock, follow the general seven LNT principles, plus consider these equine specific principles: Plan Ahead: Educate yourself; find out about available feed, high use areas to avoid, and current restrictions. Choose grazing restraints, lighten your load and use your calmest horses that have been trained at home. Durable Surfaces: Carry water to your horses or choose an established ford. Ride single file & stay on trails. Place your kitchen area in the most durable spot since it gets the most traffic. Campfire Impact: Keep fires small and build only when they are safe. Use only dead and down wood. If no established fire ring exists, use a firepan to hold your fire. Dispose of Waste: Pack out ALL trash, do not burn or bury it. Kick apart manure piles along the trail and carry manure away from a campsite to disperse it. Leave what you Find: Use weed free feed. Do not break limbs, cut trees, build structures or tie horses to trees. Do not collect sheds or pick bouquets for camp. Respect Wildlife: Control your dog and consider electronic collars. Secure feed & food to prevent wildlife scavenging. Be Considerate of Other Visitors: Remove trash left by others. If you encounter hikers unfamiliar with horses, greet them and ask them to move to the downhill side of the trail for safety. This year there are a variety of activities, rides and work parties planned and we’d love for you to come have fun! 2014 brings several joint activities and rides with the Ferry County Chapter of BCH and a couple with the Methow Valley Chapter as well. Steak rides, wine rides, socials, clinics, dinners and other activities round out the year. Take advantage of these and come have fun! ! Opportunities exist as well, from positions that need to be filled to simple tasks that require only a one-time commitment. Our committee chairs handle the main duties, but extra hands are needed for specific projects from time to time. Pick and area you are interested in and volunteer. Many hands make light work! Talk to any officer or committee chair if you would be willing to help out for any amount of time. ! This Yearbook is provided for your convenience. If you note any errors, please contact [email protected] . You can also access this yearbook and a lot more on our website: www.ovcbchw.com ! Replacement Yearbooks can be purchased for $5 and can be picked up at any monthly meeting. If you need the replacement Yearbook to be mailed to you, the cost is $7.00. For replacement Yearbooks, please contact Cathy Kvistad at (509) 826-1421 or at the email above. . By keeping your contact information current, you should receive a monthly newsletter and a Trailhead pamphlet every two months. If you stop receiving these, please contact Cathy. ! We look forward to a great year! We also look forward to seeing YOU “come have fun”!!
