Whale Watching!
On Wednesday, March 8th, the weather
was questionable for a whale watching
excursion; it was raining and cold. As
the saying goes in the Hampton Roads
area, “hang around for 30 minutes
and the weather will change,” and it
did! The clouds cleared away, the rain
stopped and the sun came out! It was a
perfect day for whale watching.

Whale watching was a first time
experience for all the residents and
family members who attended. The
excursion started at the Rudee Inlet
Fishing Pier and then headed out into
the deep waters of the Atlantic Ocean.
Seeing the boardwalk, hotels and
beaches from an ocean view was a first
time experience for our Willow Creek
crew too.
It was a chilly one-hour ride to where
our expert whale watching captain
and his mates took us for a hopeful
whale sighting. We were all excited
with anticipation.

The tour guide informed the passengers the captain looked for whale
spout spray to locate where the whales were feeding. Then it happened!
The captain announced a whale was spotted! The boat slowed down,
and we all eagerly peered out into the deep waters waiting, waiting,
waiting, and then there was a spray of water and the whale appeared. It
then submerged back into the sea. It was an amazing experience! A few
minutes passed and another whale was spotted and was captured on
“film.” It was a day to remember.

Valentine’s Dinner and Variety Show
Willow Creek residents dined by candlelight and then enjoyed our first Valentine’s Variety Show. Residents Fay and
Joyce, better known as “the sisters,” sang a duet. Sandra sang a solo. Jo played love melodies on the piano and then
danced a waltz with our dancing star Tony. Residents also enjoyed ballroom dancers and an accordion player.

A Mardi Gras celebration started at the supper hour where residents adorned themselves with masks, beads
and crazy attire.
After supper, the residents paraded into the Activity Room led by the band, Sound of Swing, playing, “When the
Saints Go Marching in.”
