poems will be judged on the writer’s ability to create a story or poem based on
one or more of the themes of Edgar Allan Poe .

Contest Rules

Mailed or delivered entries must be received at Kosciusko Literacy Services office
(201 North Union Street, Warsaw 46580) by 11:30 a.m. on Friday, April 22, 2016.

in the subject line of the email.

Submissions must be typed or neatly written.


Only one (1) essay or poem may be submitted by each contestant.

Essays should be between 500 and 1000 words.
Poems should be between 12 and 24 lines.
Entries must be the original work of the writer submitting the entry.
No literary form other than an essay or poem will be accepted.
Each entry must reflect the contestant's original writing and thinking.
Each entry must include a title page, not considered text, with the following
information:
Essay Title or Poem Title
Author's name and address
Telephone number and/or email address
Category (Adult, High, Middle, or Elementary School)
School name and grade (if applicable)
Entries become property of Kosciusko Literacy Services. Kosciusko Literacy Services has to right to
reprint the entries in publications and on the web. Appropriate citations will be given to the writers.
Judging
The essays and poems will be judged in four categories:
Comprehension
Creativity
Grammar
Organization
