Lesson 4A.1 (3 days): “A Sound of Thunder” Triplet Study
 Quick write activity: Write or project the following question on the board:
“Would you visit the past if you could? If yes, where and when would you go
and why? If no, what consequences of time travel would stop you from going
back in time?”

Vocabulary activity: Have students create a chart on a sheet of notebook
paper with three columns labeled “Know Well,” “Think I Know,” and “Don’t
Know.” Project the “A Sound of Thunder” vocabulary (word document) and
have students place the words in the three columns.
o Then select two volunteers and give each student a fly swatter. Have
the students stand up at the board near the projected image while
you read definitions for the words. The volunteers are to attempt to
swat the correct word for the definition before their opponents.

(Optional) Visit thinkcentral.com either as a class or individually using the
keyword HML9-37 and visit the time line, author’s bookshelf, and notable

Notes from Council
During this unit, please pull from your Kamico workbooks,
Texas End-of-course Coach, or any other resource you
have access to in order to reinforce skills your students
are struggling with.
Expository essay instructions are a suggestion. Please
continue to teach the expository essay in the way your
students have found success.
This week’s lessons could easily go over the suggested
time frame. At that point, you will need to make the
decision to cut from the lessons or go into the next week.
Writing the expository essay and completing the short
answer questions will be priorities in this week’s lessons.
