Summer Newsletter 2016

Principal’s Summer Message
Every successful individual knows that his or her achievement depends on a
community of persons working together.
Paul Ryan
Even in this busy month, it is important to stop and take a moment to reflect upon what we have achieved
together as a community of staff, students and parents. Thank you everyone!
This week marks several significant moments—the end of our grade 8 students’ elementary school
career, and for year 2 Kindergarten students, the end of Kindergarten. For Miss. MacCrimmon, the end
of an incredible teaching career! Congratulations! For our staff members, June denotes the end of
another school year at Allan A. Greenleaf. For others, it is goodbye to Greenleaf, and new teaching
adventures.
We will be saying goodbye to the following teachers who are leaving Greenleaf to pursue teaching
opportunities elsewhere. Miss. Crechiola will be a Student Success teacher for Family 5 Schools. Ms.
Grohmann will be teaching Gr. 3/4 at Strathcona School, Ms. Rodic will be teaching Gr. 4/5 at Billy Green
School and Mrs. Thompson will be a CN/CPS Intensive Intervention Teacher supporting HWDSB. Mr.
Barringer will be on sabbatical enjoying time with his family and will come back to us for the 2017/18
school year. In addition, we say thank you and goodbye to Mr. Adeney, Mr. Kirkbride, Ms. Johnson and
Mrs. Sweet for supporting us in LTO roles and Educational Assistants, Ms. Thomas, Ms. Brillinger and
Mrs. Lewis. Finally, we say goodbye to Mrs. Adler who will be moving to Highview and Billy Green
Schools. Thank you all for your contributions to Greenleaf staff and students. We will miss you!
We welcome back Mrs. Petrovic, Mme Griffin and Mr. Dumont and welcome new teaching staff Mr.
Cherriere, Mr. Hughes, Mrs. Mairinger, Mrs. Brouwers, Ms. McKenzie and Ms. Boyd. Also, welcome to
Mrs. Knox and Ms. Flood who will be new Educational Assistants at Greenleaf.

Combined Grades
Combined grades are now a regular practice in many schools. Schools group students from two grades
in one classroom for a variety of reasons that include balancing class size across the school and to meet
student learning needs. Combined grade classes are not new—they have always been a common part of
the school experience. Please check this link for more information.

School Office Hours/Website
The school office will be closed all summer. Regular office hours will resume August 29th, 8:30-4:00. In
addition, please be aware that the school website mailbox is only checked sporadically throughout the
summer.
Transportation
This is a reminder for all courtesy bus students to make alternative arrangements for the first two weeks
of school. No courtesy transportation will be granted until our Kindergarten numbers are finalized.
Following that, if space allows, children in our primary grades will take priority. If you live 1.6 km from
school and do not receive a letter from transportation by late August, please contact 905-523-2318.
