Men’s Pennant
North West Bay Golf Club
Web Site
The Club has a new web site.
To access the new site, use the
following link:
This year, the Club has two teams
representing our Club – one in
Division 3 and the other Division7.
http://www.northwestbaygolfc
lub.com.au/
Our Division 3 Team has
encountered some stiff opposition
and unfortunately have lost their
first two games.
The new site is still a work in
progress. However, members
can access the competition
roster, competition results,
newsletters and more.
The Division 7 Team has played
three games and currently have 2
wins and a draw. Hopefully the
team can get one away win to have
a chance of winning the Pennant.
Good luck to both teams.

The Club House Development
The Associates have started their

away with same 2½ / 2½ result.
Hope we can keep it going.
On Tuesday 7 March we travelled
to Huon Valley to participate in
the annual charity day and it was
North West Bays turn to name the
charity which was Helping Hands
Kingston. The amazing amount of
$546.50 will be handed to the
charity.
encouraging a business to enter
a team. Members can also help
by:
• Selling or purchasing raffle
tickets
• Donating a prize for the
raffle or the competition
• Providing an item for
auction or
• Volunteer some time on the

It would be great to say it is
happening…unfortunately, all we
can report is there is nothing to
report.

Course News
TasWater Works
Over the past three years, the
Board has provided information
about proposed TasWater works to
lay water pipes along the 12th
fairway. Projected dates for the
work have come and gone and
nothing has happened.
Recent discussions with TasWater
indicate that the work may occur
in the second half of this year,
possibly August or September.
Reece Plumbing
Mr James Penwright of Reece
Plumbing kindly donated a shower
liner for a shower in the
maintenance shed. The
construction of the shower is so
the Club complies with work
health and safety requirements.
If this work proceeds, then the 12th
hole will be out of play for several
weeks. During the pipe laying
work and the restoration of the
fairway, the 12th will be converted
to a par 3 of between 100 and 130
metres.
So, if you have any plans to redo
your bathrooms, to do some
plumbing work or install an
irrigation system, give Reece
Plumbing a call to see how they
can help you.
TasWater will make good the 12th
fairway and they have indicated
that TasWater will help our Club
improve the fairway and fill in
some of the hollows between the
150-metre mark and the green.
Reece Plumbing is located at 36
Browns Road, Kingston

As more information becomes
available and dates are finalised,
the Club will advise our members.

Golf Rules – Changing the Setup
of a Club During a Round
Adjustable drivers are a relatively
new phenomenon in the world of
golf, but altering your clubs has
long been accounted for by the
Rules of Golf.
Let’s turn back the clock to 1991
and a time when adjustable drivers
weren’t even a consideration.
Wayne Levi, the PGA Tour`s 1990
Player of the Year disqualified
himself from the Honda Classic
after the first round.
Levi called tournament official
Mark Russell early Friday morning
to report that he may have
unwittingly violated a rule midway
through the first round. He
reported that he pulled lead tape
off the back of his driver’s
clubhead.
Levi was disqualified for violating
Rule 4-2 of the Rules of Golf. The
rule states: “During a stipulated
round, the playing characteristics
of a club shall not be purposely
changed.”
Players over the years have used
lead tape to add weight to their
clubheads. However, if the tape is
used, it cannot be removed if a
competition round had
commenced.
Rule 4-2 has had a renaissance
since the advent of the adjustable
driver in recent years as now the
rule pertains to adjusting your
driver loft or clubface orientation
during the round. Here’s the rule in
its entirety:
4-2. Playing Characteristics
Changed and Foreign Material
a. Playing Characteristics Changed
During a stipulated round, the
playing characteristics of a club
must not be purposely changed by
adjustment or by any other means.
The rule carries a two-stroke
penalty for carrying, but not using
the club for the first two holes. A
maximum of four-strokes for not
using the club can be assessed.
However, if you use the altered
club in competition, the penalty is
disqualification, as Levi found out.
Chaplain’s Corner by Peter Ball
I find it quite remarkable how Golf
is so much like everyday life. In
life, generally, we set out each day
intending to walk a "straight path"
doing the things that are important
for the day, and hoping for a
successful outcome in each
activity. But unfortunately,
frequently, we strike problems
difficulties and sometimes
disasters.
In life, of course, when in trouble
we often know what is the best
way of handling the problem, but
often take the "easy" out which
may of course come back to bite us
in one way or another.
"You know what shot I'm going
to take here."
In life's "game" we do set out with
the intention of "staying on the
fairway, doing the right thing" so
to speak. But as we are not
"perfect" mistakes happen, and we
end up in trouble. Like the good
golfer, we should admit to
ourselves we "got it wrong", take
our medicine so to speak. This
may mean if our mistake has been
that we have hurt someone, we
should take the "good golfer:
approach" and humbly with good
grace say that we are sorry.
Golf Defined
“Speaking personally, I find both
these choices, in Golf and in Life,
quite difficult and challenging. So,
I must confess that I am in both
cases quite guilty of “getting
outside assistance.” (Divine of
course)”
Stay on the fairway,
Chaplain Peter.
Golf Humour
• If your best shots are the
practice swing and the "gimme
putt", you might want to
reconsider this game.
• Achieving a certain level of
success in golf is only
important if you can finally
enjoy the level you've reached
after you've reached it.
• Golf is the only sport where
your most feared opponent is
you.
• Golf is like marriage: If you
take yourself too seriously it
won't work....and both are
expensive.
• The best wood in most golfer's
bags is the pencil.
• To some golfers, the greatest
handicap is the ability to add
correctly.
• In golf, some people tend to get
confused with all the
numbers...they shoot a "six",
yell "fore" and write "five".
• Swing easy. Hit hard.
In Golf, of course we begin our
round, intending to stay on the
fairway, avoiding the traps,
bunkers, heavy rough, and water,
etc. But like life we don't seem to
be able to complete the round
without some errant shot creeping
in and getting us into trouble.
How we deal with these "troubles"
can make quite a difference at the
end of the day. Of course, most
golfers know what is the best way
to handle trouble when it comes,
but then again, they don't
necessarily follow that through.
Instead of "taking their medicine"
and chipping out or replaying the
shot, or taking a penalty drop etc.
they go for the Seve Ballesteros
shot, "a one in ten for the average
golfer, which often results in more
trouble.
"Yes, sir," replied the caddie as
he took a hip flask of malt from
the bag.
• Why is it twice as difficult to
hit a ball over water than sand?
• Golf! You hit down to make the
ball go up. You swing left and
the ball goes right. The lowest
score wins. And on top of that,
the winner buys the drinks.
Shot Selection
He'd sliced his drive and
watched resignedly as the ball
plummeted into the woods. He
followed after and found his
ball...surrounded by thick
undergrowth and wedged firmly
between two tree roots.
He contemplated the situation
for a few profoundly silent
minutes then turned to his
caddie and asked
