WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN KCC INSIDER: ........CAUGHT ON CAMERA (PG 3) ........ ANNOUNCEMENTS (PG 3) CALENDAR: OCTOBER 2012 (PG 4) What ”Touching Lives, Changing Destinies" could have been Many times I wonder why I’m not as joyful as I ought to be as a Christian, my thought lingers at the idea that there could be a happier life out there for me. I know such thoughts are bold to entertain in the Christian mind, not alone voice them out. My mind is at a constant struggle between what God has done and what He hasn’t. Each time I desire to count my blessings; I end up counting the unanswered prayers, the many pains, several disappointments, and defects, and this always robs me of my joy. I’m left with no room in my soul to bless the Lord. This had been the state of my mind until one Sunday morning at King’s Court Chapel during a thanksgiving service when the Pastor began his message with a statement, “It is in the knowledge of what could have been that we appreciate what is.” Imagine a situation with two boys, one born with many privileges and the other born into poverty, growing up in several homeless shelters. Both boys were hosted at a youth camp and each of them had a room with a clean bed and one pillow. The privileged boy spent most of the night complaining at the fact that he was sleeping on a bed with only one pillow. While the other boy fell on his face thanking God that he had a bed to himself for the first time ever! What made the second boy very grateful is his knowledge of what could have been because of his experiences. We often don’t thank God enough because all we have is the knowledge of what is; you complain because you are jobless, not knowing there are people who are jobless, sick and lonely at the same time. In 2 Samuel 6:14, we see King David dance before the ark of God with great rejoicing until his royal robe fell off his back. David was very grateful because he knew what could have been, because earlier in an attempt to bring the ark back to Jerusalem, Uzzah lost his life. He knew how the Philistines defeated Israel because the glory of God had departed from them when they lost the ark. He also knew how Obed-Edom’s household was blessed because of the presence of the ark (2 Samuel 6:1-11). So he had every reason to rejoice greatly. But in the house of David, there was one who had no knowledge of what could have been, “Michal, daughter of Saul watched from a window, and when she saw King David leaping and dancing before the LORD, she despised him in her heart” 2 Samuel 6:16. It is easier to appreciate what is, when and if we have an idea for what could have been. Sometimes we look at people who are suffering and we think they must have brought it on themselves, and because you are doing great, your family is doing well, your children are all fine, you think it’s because you are better than the person suffering. Jesus says you couldn’t have been further CONTINUES ON PAGE 2 “Keep your dreams alive. Understand to achieve anything requires faith and belief in yourself, vision, hard work, determination, and dedication. Remember all things are possible for those who believe.” -Gail Devers KCC INSIDER Get the latest Inside scope of King’s Court Chapel Cover Story Continues from the truth in such line of thinking. In Luke 13:1-4, some people told Jesus about the Galileans whose blood Pilate mixed with their sacrifices, but Jesus answered “Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans because they suffered this way? I tell you no! I tell you unless you repent you will likewise perish.” Jesus was saying to them in other words, unless you thank Him for your present status, you are offensive to Him. In verse 4 “on those 18 that the tower of Siloam fell and killed them, do you think they were worse sinners than everyone else in Jerusalem?” Jesus was telling them to repent of their ingratitude, so the next time you walk past a tower and it doesn’t fall on you, you need to thank God because you have just seen that some were not so fortunate. The same highways and byways you drive on every day, someone had been killed on that road… yet you get home safely and instead of thanking God you complain because you didn’t know what could have been. We don’t appreciate God for the absence of calamity, because we are only focused on the non-realization of our desires. Just when the veil of ingratitude was slowly beginning to lift up off face and my heart, the pastor came with an axe to cut down every last root of ingratitude in me when he painted a picture with examples of some people who were not so fortunate… • • A simple medical examination such as an MRI test ends up in the loss of life because a nurse forgot to take out the oxygen tank and the magnetic pull of the MRI machine pulls the oxygen tank and crashes on the patient. “Oh, that men would give thanks to the Lord for His goodness, And for His wonderful works to the children of men! Let them sacrifice the sacrifices of thanksgiving, and declare His works with rejoicing” Psalm 107:21-22. A trip to the gas station turns deadly, when a sniper chose his next target, an innocent person pumping gas. So, when next you complain about the price of gas remember someone’s life once ended pumping gas. How many times did we walk past death, but did not know. “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me, your rod and your staff, they comfort me” Psalm 23:4. With tears welling up in my eyes, I knew something had been broken off me, and the shackles taken off my feet and I felt a freedom to break loose into dancing, praising, and thanksgiving but to my surprise I was not alone. The choir started the thanksgiving praise and there was an explosion of Royal News OCTOBER 7, 2012 - (kcc insider) PG 2 Order Of Service Opening Prayer Praise & Worship Congregational Prayers Bible Reading Congregational Hymn Special Song Testimonies/Thanksgiving/Dedications The WORD Offering (s) Announcements Closing Prayer Birthday Greetings to: Martin Ikpomnwosa (Oct. 7), Fola Esho (Oct. 7), Ethan Mukuka (Oct. 7), Ayomide Jeremiah Femi (Oct. 8), Bawo Owoye (Oct. 9), Chantel Igori (Oct. 11), Jason Onwumere (Oct.11) and to all who are celebrating their birthdays this week. “Your shoes shall be iron and brass; and as your days, so shall your strength be.”(Deut. 33: 25) Please listen for more announcements from the Pastor Weekly/Monthly Church Programs Weekly: 1.)
