Congratulations to all students who participated in this years Art

difficult time selecting the winners. Well done to all!

On Sunday 28th August, some of our students took part in the OptiMINDS challenge at Holy Spirit College. It was a lovely and well
organized day with 71 teams from 24 different schools who competed
against each other in 3 different long term challenges (Language
Literature, Social Science and Science and Engineering). Different
divisions were available which ranged from Prep to Year 12. Students
also took part in a Spontaneous Challenge which were kept as a big
secret until the end of the day.
The Opti-MINDS challenge is an inclusive team challenge which
empowers participants to think, create and communicate. It instils a
proactive mindset of capability, responsibility, creativity & innovation
and unashamed excellence. It encourages participants to realise their
own capacity and responsibility to make the difference for themselves
and to come from an ‘If not, why not’ stance.

“In it to Win it’ and ‘Super Geeks’ were the two teams who entered the
challenge. ‘In it to Win in” consisted of Charlotte Large, Ella Hoare,
Cathleen Jacob, Chelsea Vermeil and Annika Prasad. ‘Super Geeks’
consisted of Georgina Saarinen, Akashi Cant, Zara Cant, Nina Hunter,
Ely Pepping and Tessa Moore.
All teams were given six weeks to work on a given
challenge. Students had to use their own ideas and formulate a
script. They also had to create a performance, props and design their
own costumes. Students could only create their props and costumes
from a specific list, such as: plastic bags, foil, cardboard, etc. Both
teams did extremely well in their challenges
and ‘In it to Win it” received an Honours Award
and a Spirit of Optic-Minds Award for their
presentation and
performance.
I
commend both
teams on the effort
they have put into
their performances
