Watermelon Day Bulletin Board
Decorate a bulletin board or multiple bulletin boards throughout your school. Advertise your
upcoming event or tout the healthy benefits and delicious taste of watermelon.
Note: Materials and instructions are based on a 36” x 24” bulletin board. Adjust amount of
materials and measurements for size of bulletin board.
Materials:
• Light blue craft paper
(available at craft and school supply stores)
• 1 red poster board
• 2 green poster boards
• 2 white poster boards
• 1-2 sheets of light green construction paper
• 1 sheet of red construction paper
• 4-5 sheets of 12” x 18” black construction paper
• 1 sheet of yellow construction paper
• Pencil
• Staple gun
• Scissors
• Clear craft glue
• White chalk
• Double-sided tape
• Optional – White laser paper, Permanent
black marker

Instructions
Optional – outline each bulletin board graphic with
permanent black marker before adhering to board.

Cover bulletin board base with light blue craft
paper, cut, and staple in place.
8. Draw a smile on red construction paper, cut out,
and glue to watermelon head.
Watermelon Slice
9. Cut seeds out of black construction paper and
glue to smile and the back cut of watermelon
head.
1. Draw a half-moon shape, resembling a slice of
watermelon, on green poster board and cut out.
2. Draw same shape 1 – 2” smaller on red poster
board and cut out.
10. For his outfit, draw the top half of a shirt with
one arm raised on white poster board and cut
out.
3. Glue red shape on top of green shape, so it
resembles a watermelon slice.
11. Draw just the top of an “S” on red construction
paper, cut out, and glue to white shirt.
4. Draw bite marks and cut out.
12. Glue watermelon head on top of shirt.
5. Cut seed shapes out of black construction paper
and glue to watermelon slice.
13. Draw a 2” long arm on green poster board and
cut out.
J. Slice
14. Draw a 5” long hand on yellow construction
paper and cut out.
1. Draw a 12” long oval, resembling a whole water
melon, on green poster board and cut out.
15. Glue arm and hand together and then glue to
shirt.
2. Now draw a jagged pattern, like carved water
melon, on one side of the oval and cut out.
Speak Bubble
3. Draw curvy 1.5 – 2” wide stripes on green
construction paper and cut out.
1. Draw a large speak bubble on white poster board
and cut out.
4. Glue stripes to the poster board watermelon
and cut off any excess paper stripes.
2. Using white chalk, write your own Watermelon
Day message on black construction paper and
cut out.
5. For the back of the watermelon head, draw two
more jagged edges on green and red construction paper and cut out.
6. Glue jagged sliced patterns together and then
glue to the back of the watermelon head.
7. Using white chalk, draw sunglasses on black
construction paper, cut out, and glue to water-
Tape and/or staple J. Slice, watermelon, and speak
bubble on bulletin board.
