LessonPlan:
1. In class,havestudentstaketurns readingeachparagraphof Federalist10 out loud.
After eachparagraph(or sooner),stopto defineterms. At the endof eachparagraph,
haveshrdentszummarizeMadison'sargument. Onthe chalkboard,write each
argumentand palgraph number, and have studentscopy them down.
2. Tell studentstheir assignmentis to make"A CompleteIdiot's Guideto Federalist10"
or "Federalist10 for Dummies." Fold threeor four sheetsof 8-l/2 by 1l paper
(dependingon how many paragraphsyou have numbereO in half and stapladown the
fold. Studentsare to make an illustrated cover pagewith thdir nameand a title. For
eachparagraphin Federalist10, studentsareto write a simple sentenceexplaining
Madison'i argumentand illustrateeachpage.
I've only usedthis with the FederalistPapers,but it shouldwork for any difficuh reading
if studentsare carefully guidedthroughthe lhnguage.
