Resemblance to the park plan
Emphasize theme, layering of materials and design elements.
Diversity, interest, etc. Specific design patterns and colors are
proposals and flexible in execution of overall theme.

• Art applications in the park
• 1. Entrance towers – monuments (2-4)
• 2. Railing treatment
• 3. Light tiles incorporated into any of the plaza paving areas easily
and/or into the two additional side garden areas
• Use of light/lantern - lit from within with solar element
• Layering of themes/patterns – see materials
• Continuity of theme – Layering of materials and blending of themes
transitioning from entrance towers through to railing, wrapping thru
the park
• Materials – next slide
• Maintenance – materials all designed for and experience using in
exterior applications. Only element requiring periodic maintenance
besides cleaning is the solar element found in two places. (design to
be easily accessible)

Cary Park Concept
Cary Park art enhancements make reference to illumination as in manuscript illumination and through use of
actual light. The visuals use images of plants and insects that refer to nature. The cicada is used for its visual
quality as well as its strong symbolic connotations of transformation and rebirth.
Areas of treatment
Monuments - precast concrete, 3 Form panels, light
Railing – water jet cut steel, powder coated finish
Paving The Monuments mark the entrance to the park. They are constructed from hollow precast concrete with a tactile
surface that will draw people in to touch and explore the monuments and the rest of the park. Each monument
will have cut-outs in 2 of 4 panels. The void will be filled with exterior grade 3 Form which is translucent. The
monument will have LED lighting inside it. By night the monuments will glow as the light emanates from within.
Each monument will be topped by a flower that refers to the top of the fountain and the planters in the park.
These will be made in a similar fashion as the planters.
The Railing uses a similar set of visuals as the monument but changes the scale and the material. The inspiration is
derived from magnified insect wings and plants. The parts are designed to repeat the pattern and to fit within the
planned railing.
The Paving carries further the idea of illumination with lighted pavers. The curiosity of light itself in the paving will
draw people into the park space.
