Letter from the President
Dear Royal Dames,
W
hat a wonderful year we had. Who will ever forget the “A Time
for Remembering” Tiara Ball, after ball party and Sunday brunch,
chaired by our dynamo Renee Quinn. We were so blessed to have
on our ball team, Lorraine Thomas, our Underwriting Chairperson and
Grand Benefactor; Judy Droder for the fabulous job she did as Vice President
of Ways and Means; Janet Davis and Robin Hirschman for the excellent
souvenir journal; Sharon Gustafson for the gorgeous underwriting party
and Sandy Romanovitz for the terrific public relations job she did for all of our events. There were
a lot more Dames, contributors and sponsors involved in this successful production but there isn’t
enough space to thank each one of them.
This year is the Royal Dames 40th anniversary. I am more than thrilled to announce that this year’s
Tiara Ball will be chaired by Dr. Nicholas and Anna Tranakas. Their co-chairmen are Dr. Jason
and Elise Gates. Both Dr. Tranakas and Dr. Gates are cancer specialists at Broward Medical Center.
Who could be better chairpersons? Of course, Anna and Elise are Royal Dames Board of Trustees
members. The ball will be held at Pier 66 on November 21st, so please mark your calendars now.
This will be an exciting, wonderful anniversary celebration.
We must remember that there are no paid employees who create a Tiara Ball or a Spring or Fall
Luncheon. It takes volunteers. We are extremely fortunate to have so many beautiful, intelligent,
talented gals who can contribute towards a fabulous ball. It is fun to go to the luncheons and ball but
it is also fun to attend the pre-event meetings, stuff envelopes and get sponsors and donations. Not
only do you get to know your fellow Dames better, but you can take pride in contributing towards
raising funds for the research to prevent and eliminate cancer. Close, long lasting friendships have
been coined because of participation in producing the Spring and Fall Luncheons and the Tiara
Ball. This year, I sincerely urge every one of you to get involved with these activities. Please support
our chairmen and the luncheons and ball. These events are not just for Royal Dames. These are for
your friends and an opportunity to present future Royal Dames.
I am honored to have been your president this past year and I look forward to working with all of
you and seeing you at our upcoming events. I promise you will enjoy it all. Remember.......there is
nothing like a Dame.
Warmest regards,
Sharron Navarro, President

O
ur Fall Membership Luncheon was held at the scenic
Grille 66 on the Intracoastal
Waterway. The elegant event was
chaired by Sharon Gustafson and
Joey Stotsky. At the champagne
reception the Royal Dames and their
guests enjoyed shopping an array of
wonderful silent auction items as well as an exquisite display
of jewelry presented by Lucy Schroders of Jon Paul Jewelers.
A portion of the sales of jewelry was donated back to the Royal
Dames. During the luncheon, Neiman Marcus models fashioned
upcoming fall fashions in the latest styles and colors. In keeping
with this year’s Tiara Ball theme,
“A Time for Remembering,”
Lorraine Thoams presented
lovely bouquets to long time
loyal members Jeanne Hollinger,
Mary Kay Follin, Renee LaBonte,
Audrey Burch, Peggy Sudbrink,
Arlynne Vollmuth Bentsen and Betty Roschman.

S
haron Gustafson and Barry Florescue kindly opened the doors of their lovely
oceanfront home on Hillsboro Mile and generously hosted our Underwriters' Party
for the Tiara Ball. Ambiance of overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, great music and
dancing outside on the patio, dining on fabulous hors d'oeuvres while sipping our favorite
beverage, as well as martinis from the magnificent
sculpted ice martini bar and followed by gourmet
sweets... it doesn't get any better! Many, many
thanks, Sharon and Barry, for your support and for
an unforgettable evening.
