Presentation: Board should be neat, all text should be clear, board is
appealing without being distracting, information is evenly spaced, font size
is appropriate (not too big or too small), graphs and pictures are easy to
read and appropriate to the project, all words/lettering are without error.
Question/Purpose: Student(s) presented a question that can be answered
through experimentation and one in which the outcome is measureable or
a solution is possible. Purpose of testing is clear.
Hypothesis: The give hypothesis is an educated guess based on background
knowledge and research. Hypothesis states clearly the results that are
expected after testing.
Plan/Procedure: Procedure was sequential, clear and thorough; defines the
investigation clearly; could easily be followed or duplicated by others;
contains specific numeric elements such as number of trials, amounts of
materials, etc.
Data/Results/Analysis: Students(s) used graphics in the form of a table or
graph to show quantitative data, standard units of measurement are used;
graphs and tables are neat, labeled, and easy to read. Results are also
summarized qualitatively neatly in paragraph form.
Conclusion: The conclusion was based on analysis of data; includes the
mention of whether the hypothesis was correct or not and can analyze
why; suggests the next step in testing; is summarized neatly in paragraph
form.
Abstract: Student(s) had a typed abstract available on the board or table
that summarized the entire project. Abstract included question, hypothesis,
plan, results and conclusion and was summarized neatly in paragraph form
Bibliography: Student(s) had available (on board or table) a bibliography of
all sites used in research and analysis of their project. Bibliography was
MLA style and at least 5 credible sources are noted.
Presentation Responses: Student(s) could answer questions pertaining to
the project, they can accurately describe the trials, problems and results,
they can hypothesize how further changes would affect their results
Presentation Behavior: Student(s) spoke clearly and loudly, maintained eye
contact, acted appropriately when speaking with judges, discussed only the
science fair topic, stood when talking to judges, responded to any/all
questions with thoughtful, appropriate answers
