This fast paced class will give you a chance to explore kiln-fired glass and many of the techniques that make melting glass so exciting. Create several kiln-fired pendants, working with both clear and black dichroic glass. In the first class, we will be cutting the dichroic glass to create color and design. In the second class you will cut and shape the glass into pendants. Students will leave class with a beautiful finished pendant. SHI-14 Let’s Explore Color in Pastel August 17 10:00 - 3:00 Elizabeth Craumer Tuition $75.00 This workshop will concentrate on using color, and becoming more confident with your color selection, while concentrating on breaking down some of the color mysteries and doing color exercises. Instructor will demonstrate techniques and assist students at their easels. The day will end with a critique, along with some framing tips. Students will leave with new insights of various pastel techniques to improve their work. (Students will need to bring their own materials and supplies. Recommended list is available on our website) SHI-15 Make Your Own Wire Chain August 20 10:00 - 5:00 Joy Raskin Tuition $95.00 (includes materials) Chains such as Egyptian spiral chain, Viking (knitted) chain, wire-wrapped links with beads chains, basic link chains will be covered. Using 14g. to 26g. round wire, we will wrap, bend, knit, hammer, spiral our way to make your own chain samples, and a chain to be worn. SHI-16 Indigo and Shibori Sara Goodman NEW DATE September 25 10:00 - 5:00 Tuition $95.00 (includes materials) A one day class in the ancient art of Japanese resist and natural indigo dyeing. Japanese shibori is an ancient technique for creating patterns on cloth. The focus will be using various ways of reserving portions of cloth with folds, pleats, pulled stitches, and wrapped string. In this class we will learn the three essential methods: mokume (stitching), arashi (pole wrapping) and itajime (fold and clamp). An indigo vat will be available for dyeing once the cloth is prepared. Students may also bring their own fiber, yarn or cloth for dyeing in the vat. SHI-17 Indigo, Shibori & Clay Resist Dyeing NEW CLASS September 24 - 25 10:00 - 5:00 Sara Goodman Tuition $190.00 (includes materials) An expanded version of SHI-16; this two day workshop is for those students who wish to learn the art of clay resist dyeing. Use clay to create your own fabric designs. In clay resist dyeing the areas covered with clay remain undyed, creating your own unique patterned fabric. On Saturday you will create your own designs that need to dry overnight before the actual dying the next day. On Sunday you will dye your clay resist fabric and also learn the Shibori techniques described in SHI-16. These 2 class will be held at the artist’s studio in Center Harbor, NH.
