November 2012 School Nutrition Program Awarded for Farm to School and Customer Service Best Practices The Fulton County School Nutrition Program received formal recognition by both the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the Georgia Department of Education for 2012 Best Practices Awards. The FCS Board of Education also recognized the program’s achievements at the October Board meeting. Autrey Mill Middle School Cafeteria was named both the 2012 USDA Southeast Region Award Winner for Customer Service and the 2012 Georgia Department of Education Best Practice Award Winner for Customer Service. Congratulations to Autrey Mill Middle School Nutrition Manager, Ellen Bennett, who developed and implemented a “Lunch for Dinner” event for parents attending Curriculum Night at the school. The event provided an opportunity for parents to experience school meals and meet the school nutrition staff to learn more about the program. In addition, the FCS School Nutrition Program was named 2012 Georgia Department of Education Best Practice Award Winner for the Farm to School Program system-wide. All school cafeterias in Fulton County have participated in the Farm to School Program since 2011, increasing access to locally grown produce for all students. Each month a locally grown fruit or vegetable is featured on the menus.
