Year 7 Curriculum Guide
Autumn Term 2016
English
Lower group – CVC words, key word spelling and reading, simple
sentence building, using captital letters and full stops to demarcate
writing, following the Read, Write Inc scheme.
Middle group – CVCC words, vowel phones, extended sentences,
independent writing, demarcate sentences correctly, use exclamation
and question marks, following the Read, Write Inc Scheme. Learning
to use joined up handwriting.
Higher group – Instruction and Explanation writing: using bullet points,
semi colons and colons effectively in writing, exploring and choosing
effective language, plan, draft and write for specific purposes and
audiences. Classic Fiction: increase familiarity with a wide range of
books, discuss how authors use language to create meaning, use and
punctuate written speech. Modern fiction: discuss how authors use
language, use PEE ( point, evidence and explanation) in writing, to be
able to use quotes to support written ideas, to know the features of a
newspaper article and to write their own, to be able to consider
character viewpoints. Learning to use joined up handwriting.
Maths
Lower group
Number bonds to 10, adding and subtracting to 20 using numberlines,
beginning to understand the concept of multiplication and division as
groups, to recognise odd and even numbers, classifying and naming
2D and 3D shapes, learning to order the days of the week and months
of the year, learning to tell the time on analogue and digital clocks for
o’clock and half past times.
Middle group 1
Counting in 2s, 5s and 50s, counting 10 more, 10 less up to 100, read
and write numbers to 50, calculate 1/3, 1/4 , 2/4, ¾ of a shape,
calculate simple fractions, count in halves up to 10, work out 20 + 70
by using known number facts and apply to subtraction, pairs to 10 and
100, add 2 digit numbers mentally, classify and names shapes
according to their features (ie. number of vertices, shape of faces).
Middle group 2
Complete, read and interpret information in tables, including
timetables, construct own tables and charts from given information
deciding on scale, estimate and measure angles, draw a given angle,
describe equilateral, isosceles, right angle and scalene triangles,
prime numbers, prime factors, composite numbers, classify and
names shapes according to their features (ie. number of vertices,
shape of faces).
Higher group
Explain that a whole number can be written as a fraction,multiply a
fraction by 10, multiply a mixed number by 10, find equilivant fractions,
convert fractions into decimals, convert between different units of
measurements, imperial units of measurements, problem solving with
measurements, measure degrees, estimate and measure them
accurately, draw a given angle, describe equilateral, isosceles, right
angle and scalene triangles, prime numbers, prime numbers, prime
factors and composite numbers, calculate to find out of a number is
prime, multiply and divide numbers mentally, classify and names
shapes according to their features (ie. number of vertices, shape of
faces).
History - Crusades
Recap on the Battle of Hastings and the events leading to it.
Learn about being a knight. Know why people would want to go on a
crusade. Identify where the crusades took place and what countries
and groups of people were affected. Describe the events of at least
two of the crusades, identifying why they were or were not successful.
Be able to give an opinion about the crusades. To name some
important key people from the crusades stating their roles. To be able
to evaluate the success of the crusades.
Enterprise
Indentify safe clothing and safe use of tools. To be able to use a
power drill to make holes. To be able to sand wood for an effect by
hand or by power sander. Contribute to the Enterprise by sharing
ideas and working together to produce items to sell.
