Statement of Understanding regarding internships and licensure/certification. I understand and accept the following statements regarding the M.T. degree program for initial teacher licensure/certification and the application process for licensure/certification: The South Carolina Department of Education (SCDE) requires all students enrolled in initial teacher licensure/certification programs to undergo SLED and FBI checks at the time they complete the application for licensure/certification process which is approximately one year prior to enrolling in their final internship ( also referred to as full-time clinical experience, and student teaching). The SLED and FBI checks require students to be fingerprinted electronically. The SCDE will consider all criminal offenses. Students must pass the SLED and FBI background checks and be cleared by the SCDE and USC for their final internship. Some students may be required to undergo additional SLED and FBI checks prior to being licensed/ certified by the SCDE. Some school districts may have additional requirements (i.e., health screenings, additional background checks, etc.) prior to being placed in that district. Admission to and graduation from the M.T. degree program for initial teacher licensure/certification does not constitute automatic forgiveness for previous legal issues. Admission to and graduation from the M.T. degree program does not constitute automatic awarding of teacher licensure/certification by the South Carolina Department of Education. III.
