FMHS Basketball Skills Tests Ball Handling: 1.) NASH TEST: Player will stand with-in arms distance from the wall with their left foot forward and basketball in right hand. They will dribble the ball between their legs back and forth while touching the wall with the non-dribbling hand. Only count touches with the right hand. a. Standard: 40 in 30 seconds b. Goal: 60 in 30 seconds 2.) BEHIND THE BACK TEST: Player will start with the basketball in their right hand and in an athletic position. Dribble the basketball behind your back while remaining stationary. Only count touches with the right hand. a. Standard: 40 in 30 seconds b. Goal: 60 in 30 seconds 3.) 2-BALL HALF-COURT: Player will dribble 2 balls simultaneously across the width of the court with a double crossover at the cone, located in middle of court. a. Standard: 4 trips in 45 seconds (trip is there and back) b. Goal: 7 trips in 45 seconds. FMHS Basketball Skills Tests Shooting: 1.) 50 in 5: Player will shoot and relocate around the perimeter for 5 minutes. Shooting 3-point field goals. Player may use “The Gun” or shoot with a rebounder. a. Standard: 50 made 3-pointers in 5 minutes b. Goal: Be the Best! 2.) 3 MINUTE TEST: Player needs to make 3 shots from each of the 5 spots (both corners, both wings, and top of the key). Once a player passes this test, they can move on to the next level. a. Standard: “3 without missing 2 in a row” – a player must make 3 shots from each spot without missing 2 shots in a row. If they miss 2 in a row, they go back to zero at that particular spot. They have 3 minutes to complete all 5 spots. b. Goal: “Make 3 in a row” – A player must make 3 shots in a row from each of the 5 spots. LEVEL 1 – 3 makes from 15’ at all 5 spots LEVEL 2 – 3 makes without missing 2 in a row from all 5 spots LEVEL 3 – 3 made threes from each of the 5 spots LEVEL 4 – 3 made threes without missing 2 in a row from all 5 spots LEVEL 5 – 3 made threes in a row from all 5 spots 3.) 15 in 2: Player must make a 3-pointer, 15 footer, and lay-up from 5 perimeter spots (corners, wings, and top of key). a. Standard: Make 15 shots in 1 minute & 30 seconds or less b. Goal: Make 15 shots in 1 minute or less FMHS Basketball Skills Tests TOUGHNESS TEST: 1.) WARRIOR CHALLENGE: Player starts under the basket. Player performs a closeout to a cone in on the wing… then player defensive slides to baseline cone. Player then sprints to opposite wing and dives on ball and passes it to coach. Player gets up and sprints to opposite block and takes a charge from coach. Player then grabs loose ball and finishes with a made basket. a. Standard: Complete Warrior Challenge in less than 13 seconds b. Goal: Be the Best! 2.) SIDELINE 2 SIDELINE: Player starts on baseline sideline with 1 minute on clock. When time starts, player takes off towards basket and receives pass from coach and finishes with a reverse lay-up or dunk. Dunk =2 pts, Lay-up =1 pt. a. Standard: 12 makes in 1 minute b. Goal: Be the best… more makes than anyone else. Or, dunk everything! DEFENSE TEST: 1.) Lane Touches: Player starts in middle of FT lane. He must stay in a defensive stance and slide to the right. Player must touch the lane line and then slide to the opposite side. Player must touch 10 times. a. Standard: 20 touches in 30 seconds b. Goal: Be the best… have the best time in the program.
