• Dear brothers,
• Soon we will enter the new year, the
year based on the Hijrah of the
Prophet shallallahu ‘alaihi wa
sallam.
• Every year we are shown to the
events that took place during the
Hijrah of the Prophet shallallahu
‘alaihi wa sallam and his
companions.
• Their sacrifice and jihad to migrate
was recorded by Allah in the Quran.
Among them as in Surah al-Baqarah,
verse 218 which was read at the
beginning of the sermon, which
means:
• Indeed, those who have believed
and those who have emigrated and
fought in the cause of Allah - those
expect the mercy of Allah . And Allah
is Forgiving and Merciful.
• Indeed, the hijrah was the opening
of a new chapter for the
propagation of Islam.
• Although the Prophet shallallahu
‘alaihi wa sallam and his
companions went through extreme
challenges and hardships during the
hijrah, but we can see and
experience the impact of the events
till today.
• Allah does not make any event
wasted without any lessons or ibrah
behind it, but it is intended as a
guide to the next generation.
• Among the lessons from this hijrah
that we can learn and emulate are:
• First: Patience.
• Before the Hijrah from Mecca to
Medina, the Prophet shallallahu
‘alaihi wa sallam and his
companions received all tests and
trials by the pagans of Mecca.
• All kinds of abuse, suffering and
torture were imposed by the pagans
against Muslims. The Muslims at
that time did not fight back and
retaliated.
• At this point, they did what Allah
commanded, by being patient in
receiving the test given to them.
• This is what made the position of
the companions high. Allah says in
Surah al-Nahl verse 41:
• And those who emigrated for [the
cause of] Allah after they had been
wronged - We will surely settle them
in this world in a good place; but the
reward of the Hereafter is greater, if
only they could know.
• Second: Sacrifice and jihad.
• During the time that the Prophet
shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam and his
companions were persecuted,
tortured and ostracized by the
pagans, they held on to the dignity
and truth of Islamic faith they
professed.
• Although they were abused and
tortured, but their tongue was firm
to the Islamic faith. They held on to
the word Allahu Ahad.
• For the companions who were rich
and wealthy, their jihad was that
they spent in the way of Allah.
• Similarly, their sacrifice when they
migrated to Medina. The
companions left behind all the
property they owned, leaving their
homes, simply following the
command of Allah to migrate.
• This is a very high sacrifice made by
the Prophet and his companions.
High appreciation of Allah to those
who went through all sorts of
hardships, recorded by Allah in
Surah al-Tawbah verse 88:
• But the Messenger and those who
believed with him fought with their
wealth and their lives. Those will
have [all that is] good, and it is
those who are the successful.
• Third, trust in Allah.
• The hijrah of the Prophet and his
companions was a result of true
submission and trust to Allah. They
left and abandoned their wealth
and property.
• What was brought by them are
what remained. But due to their
high sacrifice, Allah facilitated their
arrival in Medina.
• The Ansar helped the Muhajirin in
all things, solely on the basis of
brotherhood in Islam.
• Indeed, the Hijrah has many lessons
that we can learn. We do not read
this story as historical material, but
teaching is more important for us to
take as appreciation and exemplary.
• Hopefully, the new migratory
journey ahead is our resolution and
determination to continue to
defend the sanctity of Islam and the
word of Allah.
• The hijrah of the Prophet and his
companions must be continued. If
we as Muslims do not see the
strength of Islam, then it is futile the
struggle of the Prophet and his
companions.
• But if we strengthen our hearts with
the spirit of Islam, Allah will open a
path for our guidance.
• And those who strive for Us - We will
surely guide them to Our ways. And
indeed, Allah is with the doers of
good.
