States and Bodies of Water That Border Virginia Bordering States Bodies of Water 1 Teacher Tips: 1. Copy the above map (page 2) and graphic organizer (page 1 )templates front to back onto a 8½ x 11” piece of paper. White or colored copy paper may be used. 2. Have students label the map with the states that border Virginia and the bodies of water that also border Virginia. Due to limited space, teachers may choose to have students label the map with state initials rather than having them write the whole state name: MD, WV, KY, TN, NC. 3. Have students list the bordering states and bodies of water in the table on the inside of the foldable. You may want to refer to a mnemonic device, such as: Mustard With Ketchup Tastes Nasty Maryland West Virginia Kentucky Tennessee North Carolina Include details about the Chesapeake Bay and Atlantic Ocean from page 2 and 4 of the 2008 Curriculum Framework.
