Reflections in
the Quiet of
the Night
OHB’s Skip-A-Loan Payment
In an early evening in mid-November, I had the
pleasure of joining all the OHB staff for a light
supper and conversation at our quarterly staff
meeting. On this occasion we all gathered in the
Board Room at OHB-Stratford where we had
Subway sandwiches and cookies.
Later that evening, I received an email from
OHB President Dustin Riddle who had written me
after the staff meeting had ended:
“Dr. Fisher, Thank you for taking the time to
come to the quarterly staff meeting this evening.
Everyone had a great time. We enjoyed your visit
and after-dinner comments.
“Personally I feel as if we have moved mountains
at OHB in the last 6 months. Everyone tonight
was positive and upbeat. The employees have
really embraced Mark, Mike, and Whitney as well.
“Not that I have ever lost enthusiasm for OHB,
but I can certainly say that I am more excited
about the bank and its future than I ever have
been. I feel that we are surrounding ourselves
with a good nucleus of individuals that promote
not only our growth, but the health of the bank.
Late that evening, I was still ruminating about
Dustin’s perspective. Around midnight I felt I
must respond to Dustin’s email. Here’s my email
response to him:
“Dustin, Your gracious words reinforce my
optimism and confidence in the future of
OHB . . . that future that is both near and far.
“Yes, I agree with you completely that "we have
moved mountains in the past 6 months." But let
me expand your mountain metaphor by borrowing words from MLK's Mountaintop speech:
And He's allowed me to go up to the mountain.
And I've looked over. And I've seen the Promised
Land . . . But I want you to know tonight, that we,
as a people, will get to the Promised Land. So I'm
happy, tonight. I'm not worried about anything.
“The Promised Land for OHB is not simply
completing the new bank buildings or exceeding
our next goal of $200M in Total Assets, or excelling budget each year, our Promised Land is
a "a good nucleus" of "positive and upbeat"
friends working together, respecting each other,
and sharing a vision to "promote not only our
growth but the health of our bank."
“Now we have seen the Promised Land over the
mountaintop and we are nearer to that Promised
Land. And with your steady and capable leadership, OHB will continue on to accomplishments in a Promised Land that we can hardly
imagine as we move together into the future for
the bank and for each of us individually.”
Merry Christmas to all.

Each December and January OHB offers
its Skip-A-Payment plan so that our loan
customers can skip their regular December or
January payment for auto and personal loans.
It works this way: OHB simply advances
your next payment’s due date to the month
following your skipped payment. You get to
keep your cash that you would have used for
that month’s loan payment. Check with us at
any of our four locations. Certain restrictions
and fees apply (the Skip-a-Payment plan is not
available for mortgage loans).

A Christmas Tradition Upgraded:
A New Sweet-Potato Taste
Roff’s Morrow Family Picked
as Farm Bureau District 8
Family of the Year
by OHB VP/ Roff Manager Mark Harrel
The standard sweet-potato dish will soon be displaced
on many tables by this delicious upgrade to the typical
sweet-potato marshmallow-laden baked concoction.
Trust me. This sweet-potato recipe will move
this side dish to the center of your Christmas table.
I guarantee that there will be requests for seconds
and thirds. Forget the hallowed baked sweet
potatoes with the gooey toasted marshmallow
topping. You’ll never go back to the sweet
potatoes of Christmases past, once you have tasted
this heavenly treat.
The video recipe at http://allrecipes.com/

simplifies making this new holiday tradition.

Stonewall’s Halloween
Extravaganza: Trunk or Treat
On Saturday evening, October 29, Stonewall
came together to host the town’s first-ever
Halloween Trunk-or-Treat event at the Stratford
school’s softball fields. A horde of goblins, superheroes, princesses, and aliens (estimated by some
at 600 or more) came out
to collect Halloween
treats provided by local
businesses, school employees, Stonewall Police
Department, townsfolk,
and Oklahoma Heritage
Bank (OHB). The bank
also donated movie
passes to Ada’s Cinemark
Theaters to Best Costume and Best Trunk Decoration winners: Stonewall elementary Teacher Casey
Thomas, dressed as a zombie, won the prize for this
year’s Best Costume. Greg and Buffy Lovelis and
their children dressed
and also decorated their
vehicle to the theme of
The Wizard of Oz to
win as the Best Trunk
decoration.

A new community tradition
was born in Stonewall this
Halloween when a Facebook-fueled gathering of
goblins,
superheroes,
princesses, and aliens (estimated by some at 600 or
more Stonewall area kids of all ages) appeared to lay claim to
a variety of candies and confections donated by local businesses and townsfolk. It was a fun occasion for all.

Joey and Monica Morrow and their four sons,
Lucas, Johnathan, Andrew and Thomas, were
recently honored as the Oklahoma Farm Bureau
(OKFB) District 8 Farm Family of the Year.
Along with the Morrows, three other families from
other state districts vied for OKFB Farm Family
of the Year at the 75th annual OKFB convention
held at the Cox Convention Center in Oklahoma
City(Nov. 11). The Maschino family of Guymon
was named the OKFB Family of the Year at
the event.
The OKFB Women’s Leadership Committee
sponsors this annual program to recognize farm
and ranch families who embody the best
traditions of Oklahoma agriculture and rural life,
such as strong family involvement in all phases of
farm management and production, innovative
family-farm operation and management, modern
agricultural techniques, as well as active leadership in the Farm Bureau, the community, and other
agricultural groups.
The Morrows run a cow/calf operation and also
grow wheat, hay and canola on their farm
near Roff. They are transitioning to a no-till
management that will improve the soil health
while providing erosion control. “Joey loves
farming,” says Monica.
Joey and Monica are in agreement that a farm
is a great environment to raise kids, taking care of
cattle and crops. “We are able to know them better
as they grow up,” Joey said. “We get to instill
values that they’re going to need throughout
life.” Monica agrees, “Joey has a tremendous
work ethic that is being passed down to the boys.”
Monica works off the farm as a kindergarten
teacher at Latta, where she is the 2016-2017
District Teacher of the Year. Joey and Monica are
both active in their local church, where Joey serves
as a Deacon. Joey also serves on the Fitzhugh city
council and is a volunteer fireman. Through all
the work and dedication to farming and teaching,
Joey and Monica hope to provide their boys with
an opportunity to continue the family’s farming
tradition. Given the quality of this couple, it is a
good bet that they will. “We’re very thankful for
what God has blessed us with,” Monica said.
Congratulations, Joey and Monica, on a
great and deserved honor. Also, thank you for
being an example of what makes Oklahoma rural
communities great.
