There are many words in the English language that sound the same, but have
different meanings or spellings. It is important to get these correct in your
writing. Here are a few of those common mistakes.
Been and Being - You use been when writing in past tense. Being is present tense.
He was being an idiot. He was been an idiot.
Seen, Scene and Seeing – Seen means something that you have viewed with your own eyes. It is also
past tense. Scene refers to a part of a film or play. Seeing means something that you can see with
your own eyes at that very moment.
Accept and Except – Accept means to take something or to consent to something. Except meaning
other than.
Through and Threw – Through means from one side to another. Threw means to have physically
thrown something.
