A story inspired by William Blake’s “Laughing Song” I taste a sweet berry and grin by Mia Milstein Finally the world outside my window. I can breathe in the crisp spring air. I run by the rushing rivers and streams. The wind whistles through the leaves. I run into a clearing, bursting with joy, at one with nature. The confined life I’ve always lived is over. I can now feel the thrill of the shimmering sun, the vibrant blue skies, and the swaying leaves. I smell the fragrant flowers as I lie on the dewy grass. I watch the birds flutter by. I can finally see the world around me. I get up and sprint to a blueberry bush. I taste a sweet berry and grin. I run into the woods, and even though the branches block the sun it has never been brighter. A laugh escapes my lips while I lean on a tree, finally happy. © 2014 Mia Milstein To print a copy, right click, choose “print” and choose your connected printer.
