CVRR MISSION STATEMENT
To promote the development and
growth of running in the Comox Valley
by providing education, leadership and
social opportunities, along with
programs and running events, for
runners of all abilities.
OUR CLUB

The Comox Valley Road Runners (CVRR) was
founded on May 7, 1980. Our founding President
was Dick Merrick, and he was succeeded by Bent
Harder who served until 1989. The first
organized running event was the Cumberland
,
Empire Days 3 Miler on May 18 1981.
The CVRR iscommitted to aiding in the support of
local organizations. The club allots a portion of
the proceeds from the Comox Valley Half
Marathon each year to a worthy cause. CVRR
also contributes annually to the local food bank
through the Jingle Bell Run.
CVRR encourages young runners through an
annual KIDS RUN 4 FUN clinic in early spring,
organizing a kids’running race during the Comox
Valley Exhibition, and providing a scholarship for
local young runners annually.
Social Events: The social committee
organizes various runs and get together
throughout the year such as the Valentine’s
Day Hearts and Flowers; End of the year
Bikini Blast off; New Year’s Day Mile; and
the Summer Solstice Barbeque at the track;
there is a Christmas Dinner and Dance in
December. If you want to host a social event
such as a breakfast run, please contact the
social committee for assistance.
CLUB RACES AND EVENTS


5K Clinic and Fun Run: This clinic is open to
all levels of runners. It is a 10 week program
starting in early January.
Comox Valley Half Marathon: Our premier
race of the year runs in mid-March and is
part of the Island Race Series.

KIDS RUN 4 FUN Clinic

5 Street Mile: Held annually on July 1 , this
family fun run leads the way for the Canada

Day Parade down 5 Street.
MONTHLY MEMBERSHIP MEETING
The CVRR meets the second Monday of every
month. All members are welcome to attend
andshare their ideas at this business meeting.
Please check www.cvrr.ca for updates to meeting
venue and guest speakers.
THE ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
The CVRR AGM is held in November and all
members are encouraged to come to the
Breakfast Run and meeting to hear news of the
club and share your ideas for the CVRR.

CVRR email updates are issued regularly
keeping you up to date on club events and
functions. Your email and telephone
number will only be shared with the
executive committee and race directors.

We are planning to host a few educational
talks from running experts and motivational
speakers. If you have ideas for a choice of
speaker please let the executive know.

CVRR members who race as CVRR runners
in all of the Island Series Races or the
Gutbuster Trail Running Series will have the
following year’s CVRR membership gratis.
CVRR CLUB RUNS

Tuesday Night Track:coached interval
sessions that take place every Tuesday at
5pm at the Sports Center Track on Vanier
Drive. Coach Kathy Rung leads two
structured workouts to meet the needs of
beginner to veteran runner with varying
running goals. Speed is not a prerequisite!

Weekly water running at the pool.

There are a variety of informal running
groups meeting weekly at different times
and places. These runs are of varying
intensity with runners at all levels and
interests. Please check the website for
weekly runs and welcome new members
and runners to join your group. Or create a
new running group and invite club members
to join you.

Nautical Days 4 Miler: Held annually on BC
Day, this is the oldest race in BC.

Kids’ Track ‘n Trail Fun Run at the Comox
Valley Exhibition: Held the last Saturday in
August.

CVRR Memorial Run: This is a social event
held prior to the AGM in honour of friends
and club members who have passed.

Jingle Bell Poker Run: This annual fundraiser
for the local Food Bank is held in December
at Seal Bay Park.
