about your area.

questions about a holiday destination,
but add new ideas of your own.
● Prepare your answers to the questions
in exercise 1 and try to predict what the
unprepared question will be.
● Record the interview. Ask a partner
to listen to it and say how well you
performed.
1 What verb does she use to translate ‘to
try’ or ‘to taste’?
2 What word does she use to say ‘I have
eaten too much of it’?
3 What words does she use to say ‘I
haven’t been there yet’?
4 How does she say ‘there is no lack of
things to do’?
5 What is the unprepared question?
Your teacher will ask you
the following:
● Can you help me? I am
looking for a campsite.
● Which do you
recommend?
● What is there to do here?
● Can you recommend
where to shop and eat?
● Are there any special
events here at the
moment?
Award each other one star, two stars or
three stars for each of these categories:
5 Now it’s your turn! Prepare your
answers to the task opposite, then take
part in an interview with your teacher
or partner.
● Use the Grade Studio and your answers

2 In the interview, both speakers use
the vous form because it is a formal
situation. Listen again and note

3 Listen to the second part of Zoe’s interview
and fill in the gaps.
■ Qu’est-ce qu’on peut faire ici?
● Alors … il y a la plage (1)
on
(2)
To achieve a Grade C, you need to show that you can use a variety of verbs, structures and expressions. Use:
◆ connectives to make longer sentences. Listen to how Zoe uses et, mais and ou.
◆ interesting adjectives. Note how Zoe uses tranquille and bruyant to describe the campsites.
◆ expressions with modal verbs, such as on peut + infinitive, to say what you can do.
◆ To aim higher than a Grade C, you need to show you can use other tenses, such as the imperfect
and future tenses. Zoe uses the imperfect to say there used to be a market every day and the
future to say where she will go tonight.
◆ She also uses a reflexive verb in the phrase si vous vous intéressez …
◆ She uses the comparative to say ‘nearer to the shops’: plus proche des commerces.
To really impress an examiner and aim for an A or
A* Grade, you should show that you can use the
relative pronouns qui and que; pronouns y and
en, and the superlative. Zoe uses:
◆ qui to say ‘the campsite which is beside the
sea’: qui est au bord de la mer
◆ y to say ‘I went there’: j’y suis allée
◆ en to say she ate ‘too much (of it)’: j’en ai trop
mangé
◆ le plus tranquille to say ‘La Forêt campsite is
the quietest’.
Épate l’examinateur!
◆ Listen for some of the more unusual expressions
that Zoe uses and see if you can use them:
– même sous la pluie – even when it’s raining
– Il ne manque pas de … – There’s no lack of …
– d’après la météo – according to the forecast.
