Maximising phosphate and
nitrogen efficiency
TagTeam’s MultiAction® performance
Nitrogen fixation
TagTeam is the only inoculant that delivers increased phosphate
efficiency and more fixed nitrogen for higher returns. How
TagTeam delivers more requires a closer look.
The symbiotic relationship between rhizobia bacteria and the
host plant creates nodules and fixes nitrogen. The first step
is the infection of the root hairs by rhizobia bacteria. The
rhizobia bacteria identify appropriate legume roots using a
series of coordinated chemical signals, and then infect the
plant roots. The signals used for recognition are very specific
and thus the Rhizobium species must be carefully matched
to the crop: pea, lentil, faba bean and vetch with Rhizobium
leguminosarum, chickpea with Mesorhizobium ciceri, and lupin
with Bradyrhizobium lupini.
The extra performance push from TagTeam MultiAction
inoculants comes from the interaction of the phosphate
inoculant. The naturally occurring soil fungus Penicillium bilaii
colonizes plant roots and makes bound mineral forms of less
available soil phosphate immediately available for crop use.
As a result of the phosphate inoculant in TagTeam, more root
hairs develop. Each root hair is a potential infection point for the
rhizobia bacteria. More infection points mean more nodules, more
nodules mean more nitrogen is fixed, and more fixed nitrogen
equals higher yields.
After infection, the root hairs curl around the bacteria within
three to five hours. The first nodules can appear within 6 to 12
days, and nitrogen fixation may begin within 15 days of infection
under ideal growing conditions.
Phosphate affects nitrogen fixation
Phosphate availability plays a key role in the nitrogen-fixing
process. Phosphate helps create and move much needed
energy for the nitrogen fixation process. Phosphate is key to the
nitrogen fixation process because it:
without Penicillium bilaii
with Penicillium bilaii
Source: P. bilaii inoculation increases root-hair production in field pea.

More phosphate. More nitrogen.
More profit per hectare.
The synergy of the rhizobia bacteria and the soil fungus working
together delivers increased phosphate efficiency and more fixed
nitrogen. TagTeam’s MultiAction performance delivers better
results than using a single-action Rhizobium inoculant plus more
phosphate fertiliser, and is more convenient to use.
Yield increase (% of control)
Yield increase with TagTeam® vs. single-action inoculants
• Increases the population of rhizobia within the root zone
• Increases root and shoot growth, which increases the ability
of the plant to fix nitrogen. More roots mean more sites for
nodule formation
• Reduces the time it takes for nodules to begin the fixation
process
• Increases the number and size of nodules
• Increases the efficiency of nitrogen fixation
• Increases the total amount of nitrogen in plant tissue

Types and formulations of TagTeam® available
Application of TagTeam peat
TagTeam peat inoculant has its own sticker in the formulation.
Apply TagTeam to pre-moistened seed, or add water while
applying TagTeam, or mix TagTeam with cool, clean water and
apply to seed as a slurry. Please refer to Table 3 for approximate
water rates.
TagTeam is available in a range of formulations to fit your
seeding operation and crop type as shown in Table 1.

Presterilised, self-sticking peat only
Apply TagTeam when transferring seed from the silo to the
truck or from the truck to the seeder. TagTeam peat can be
applied up to 24 hours before seeding (see Table 3).
How to apply TagTeam
Application of TagTeam granular
TagTeam granular should be applied directly with the seed in the
seed row using a granular tank for application. Application rates
vary according to row spacing (refer to Table 2). Fill the tank to
match or slightly exceed seed requirements. Do not overfill the
tank as to avoid compaction.
TagTeam can be used with many seed treatments. Contact
Novozymes Biologicals, BioAg Group at 1800 178 263 for the
most up-to-date seed treatment compatibility information.

• Before opening, drop the TagTeam bags once on each side to
loosen any compaction and pour into tank through a screen
• Carry and dump – do not auger TagTeam granular. Augering
can reduce the particle size, resulting in inaccurate metering
• Do NOT mix TagTeam in the same tank with seed or fertiliser
• Do not leave TagTeam granular in the tank overnight as
condensation can cause lumps to form
