SOLAR CAR Include: Multimeter, tape, alligator wires, measuring tape, solar race car kit Week of 10/11 and Week of 10/18 How do you build a solar car? What materials do you need? How is a solar car related to the sun’s energy? Project Journal – Week 1 Day 1 – Exploration We started reading about solar cars, and experimenting with our materials. We read about how solar energy works, and decided how we would measure the distance of our solar car. We learned that a solar panel soaks up all of the suns energy. By connecting two alligator wires to the solar panel we could transfer the energy. We connected the other end of the alligator wires to a special wheel connected to gears that moved all the other ones. Project Journal – Week 2 Day 2 – testing When finishing our solar car we decided to test its speed. We went outside and placed two pieces of measuring tape, ten feet away from each other. Then we timed how much time it took for our solar car to travel from one piece of tape to another. Its fastest speed was 1.80 feet/second. We believe that this was an incredibly fast speed for a hand made solar race car. A quick look at what the finished product was… A quick look at how our project worked
