JOB DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE: UTILITY MAINTENANCE PERSON – INSTRUMENT TECHNICIAN OCCUPATION: Skilled Craft Workers (07) FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt (Union) JOB ANNOUNCEMENT: #2931 A. OVERALL PURPOSE/SUMMARY This is a training position pursuant to achieving qualifications to bid on the Instrument technician position. Under general supervision, perform semi-skilled work in maintaining and repairing District equipment, machinery, facilities and grounds; work with others in the installation, modification, maintenance and repair of District equipment and structures and perform related work as required. B. SCOPE OF DEPARTMENT Plant Operation and Maintenance. C. INTERFACES Internal: The incumbent typically interfaces with other plant or operations personnel. External: Not typically applicable. D. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES Performs any combination of (but not limited to) the following duties according to specific departmental guidelines: 1. Assist in and performance of work in the electrical and instrumentation areas such as installing, troubleshooting, repairing, maintaining and calibrating plant instrumentation, including but not limited to electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, electronic and microprocessor based equipment; calculate output values from operating variables, install conduit and pull wiring, minor fabrication. 2. Operate District vehicles and equipment required for the transportation of equipment. Utility Maintenance Person – Instrument Technician Page 2 of 3 3. Participate in the Preventive and Predictive Maintenance Program of District facilities, including the lubrication and inspection of mechanical and electrical equipment. 4. Assist and perform troubleshooting and analysis of faulty equipment. 5. Utilize the computerized maintenance management system to input and retrieve information. 6. Observe safe work practices. 7. *Perform other related work as required. JOB SPECIFICATIONS E. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE Minimum Requirements 1. High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (G.E.D.), trade, or technical school graduate. 2. Two (2) years of instrumentation maintenance experience desired. Additional related education may be substituted for work experience. 3. Successful attainment of training milestones as defined by the Collective Bargaining Agreement. 4. Basic knowledge and skills in mechanical and/or electrical trades, including inspection and record keeping. 5. Knowledge of lubrication and application. 6. Ability to interpret illustrated parts breakdowns, engineering drawings, sketches, etc. 7. Demonstrated competency and ability to successfully complete proficiency tests in basic writing, math, reading and communication, and other job related subjects. 8. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. 9. Ability to make sound judgments and decisions based on interpretation of data. 10. Ability to assist in training of others in the work. 11. Good knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of work. 12. Ability to use a variety of hand and power tools. 13. Ability to comply with safety standard to not have facial hair that would impede proper seal of breathing apparatus (self-contained breathing apparatus S.C.B.A.). F. LICENSE, CERTIFICATION AND/OR PERMIT Minimum Requirements 1. Must have appropriate and valid Ohio driver’s license(s) to operate vehicles. 2. Driving record that is acceptable to the District’s insurance carrier. G. WORKING CONDITIONS 1. Exposure to usual noise associated with equipment and plant environment. May be exposed to odors from plant processes and laboratory field samples. 4. Exposure to atmospheric conditions such as heat, cold, dust, fumes, vapors, or mists. 5. May work in confined spaces. 6. May work from heights on ladders and platforms. ADDITIONAL NOTES: • This is a training position requiring successful completion of training Milestone 3, as defined in the Collective Bargaining Agreement, within two years of being awarded the UMP position. Upon successful completion of training Milestone 3, the employee will receive an additional incentive equal to 25% of the pay rate difference between the UMP base rate and the base pay rate of the Instrument Technician. • Within two years of being awarded the Milestone 3 incentive, the employee is required to successfully complete training Milestone 4 as defined in the collective bargaining agreement. Upon successful completion of training Milestone 4, the employee will receive an additional incentive equal to 25% of the pay rate difference between the UMP base rate and the base pay rate of the Instrument Technician Upon satisfactory completion of these last two Milestones, employees must bid on the Instrument Technician position. • To be considered for this position, all diplomas, licenses and other credentials must be on file before bidding closes. • The above is intended to describe the general content and requirements of this job.
